Location: Northwest Community Hospital - Arlington Heights, ILFull Time, 40 hours/weekDay shiftRotating weekends and callWhat you will need:Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) requiredSurgical First Assistant (CSFA) is preferred; if not must complete within two years of being hired (required)Surgical Technologist with 2 years experience in first assisting required.General Summary:The Surgical Technologist First Assist (STFA) plays a critical role in surgical procedures by providing skilled assistance to surgeons, nurses, and the surgical team. This position involves advanced knowledge of surgical procedures, patient care, and aseptic techniques to ensure safe and efficient surgeries.Providing skilled assistance to surgeons during surgical procedures, including but not limited to retracting, suturing, and hemostasis.Maintaining a sterile field and anticipating the needs of the surgeon throughout the procedure.Preparing and organizing surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies required for each procedure.Ensuring that all instruments are properly sterilized and in excellent working condition.Assisting in patient preparation, positioning, and draping to ensure patient safety and comfort.Monitoring patients' vital signs and providing appropriate care during the surgical procedure.Maintaining accurate and detailed records of surgical procedures, including instrument counts, specimens, and patient information.Documenting any unexpected events or complications during surgery for review and analysis.Collaborating effectively with the surgical team, including surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals.Communicating clearly and efficiently to ensure a coordinated surgical process.Strictly adhering to infection control protocols and maintaining aseptic techniques in the operating room.Assisting with sterilization processes and instrument handling to prevent contamination.Staying current with advances in surgical technology and techniques through ongoing education and training.Assisting in training and mentoring Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants as needed.Being prepared to respond swiftly to emergency situations within the surgical department, providing immediate assistance as directed by the surgical team.Career Pathways to Promote Professional Growth and DevelopmentVarious Medical, Dental, and Vision options
