The primary purpose of this position is to support A+ Federal Credit Union's indirect lending program by underwriting indirect loan applications and assisting with dealer relations by providing outstanding service to dealership partners. This position has the authority to make loan decisions within established guidelines and is responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of all services and operations of the Credit Union, as well as complying with legal requirements, lending regulations, and internal policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions

Indirect Underwriting

Perform complete reviews of loan applications including past credit history, stability factors, income, and membership accounts (when applicable), and render decisions using A+FCU's consumer underwriting guidelines.Consistently meet or exceed established expectations such as application volume, approval ratios, delinquency, and loss ratios.Work indirect underwriting queues and make timely loan decisions.Contact dealers and applicants to verify application information.Review tax returns and other supporting documentation, as needed.Follow credit union procedures for fraud and red flag situations.Interpret procedural guidelines to negotiate terms of credit decisions with dealers, escalate as needed.Assist team with daily tasks to ensure that all applications have been touched and all member requests have been addressed.Identify cross-selling opportunities for loan products and services to provide value and promote member engagement.Research and resolve issues related to individual member loans, accounts, or dealer transactions.Support underwriting and queues for direct vehicle, unsecured and home equity products as needed.Dealer Relations Support

Maintain excellent dealer service levels by answering phone calls and emails, providing research and coordinating with other departments to handle dealer inquiries.Educate dealerships about A+FCU's indirect lending program.Work with dealers to improve quality of applications and contract packages, minimizing funding issues such as rate errors and missing or incorrect documents.Assist in executing strategies to optimize district performance based on established key metrics.Communicate indirect program changes to dealers.Assist indirect processing team with resolving outstanding funding issues.Provide regular communication to management on the competitive position of A+FCU's indirect program including rates and guidelines.Assist with collections efforts on indirect loans including straw purchases and first payment defaults.Perform periodic dealer site visits, as assigned.Process dealership monthly and annual reviews.Miscellaneous Duties

Maintain job level knowledge by attending assigned trainings and reviewing procedures to perform all duties required of the position.Proactively work towards advanced knowledge of consumer lending products, policies/procedures, and guidelines.Participate in outside credit union sponsored activities and community/education events to increase credit union awareness.Serve as team member in organizational or departmental projects.Conduct individual dialogues with direct manager, minimum quarterly.Complete annual regulatory training as assigned.Perform other duties as required or assigned.Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalent required.Bachelor's degree preferred.Three years financial institution experience required, including consumer lending.One year sales experience required.One year consumer loan underwriting experience preferred, including vehicle and unsecured loans.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong knowledge of consumer lending products, guidelines, procedures, policies and laws, including vehicle financing and indirect vehicle loans.Understanding of consumer underwriting concepts including reading credit reports, credit scores, debt to income ratios, and loan to value ratios.Working knowledge of indirect funding process including document requirements, document verification, and processing and disbursing loans.Working knowledge of consumer lending regulations including Regulation B, ECOA, FACTA, FCRA, Regulation Z, Military Lending Act, and Truth in Lending.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.High level of professionalism, diplomacy, courtesy and tact.Problem-solving, strategic thinking, research and organizational skills.Comprehensive math skills, and excellent computer skills including MS Office experience.Ability to travel (drive a vehicle) and work outside of home/office, up to 25% of the time.General knowledge of operational, internal and security controls applicable to a retail banking environment.Certifications/Registrations

This position requires registration as a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) and Registry on an annual basis in addition to maintaining updates as needed. Initial registration is required immediately upon hire into this position. Failure to register or maintain a current registry, or any criminal activity that would bar continued participation as a MLO may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Physical Functions

Must have the ability/stamina to work at least 40 hours a week.Will frequently reach, feel, bend, stoop, carry, finely manipulate and key in data.Must be able to communicate heavily through telephone, e-mail and in-person communications.Must be able to engage in problem-solving skills to help identify and solve potential issues in the field.
