Title: Electrical Technician III
Location: Wilmington, NC
Duration: 7 months

  • Primarily in Wilmington, NC.
  • Could have travel to other plants in Midland, Winston Salem, and Hickory.
  • Most likely they will stay in WL for the duration, but we move people around as needed to manage whatever project comes along

Description:

  • PPE: Client will provide generic safety glasses, Hard hats, Gloves, Safety vests, etc.
  • Workers will need Safety boots over the ankle (typically 6 inch), but they can expense those up to **** with receipt in Fieldglass.
  • AAS Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS Mechanical Engineering (Equivalent work experience may be considered in rare circumstances.) and 3 years' experience.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

  • Perform hands-on installation support for new or modified production equipment.
  • Supervise and provide direction to internal maintenance and outside contract trades during all aspects of equipment installation and conversion such as demolition, construction, installation, testing, and debug of production equipment.
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting, process start-up, design, and documentation of Electrical and Controls Systems for new or modified production equipment.
  • Modify existing documentation to complete drawing packages, installation checklists, machine part lists, illustrations, and machine specs of production equipment.
  • Assess condition and usability of existing equipment for fit and function with new installation plans.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • (Majority of time will be spent on production floor working on equipment)
  • Execute initial equipment set-up and debug up to the point of turnover to operations.
  • Provide second-level troubleshooting support, replacing or directing trades as necessary to replace defective components and execute changes in design to solve equipment/process issues.
  • Procure and expedite materials for new or modified equipment.
  • Assist in developing electrical installation checklists and schedules. Oversee, as appropriate, the usage of these systems.
  • Prepare work orders and direct maintenance personnel and/or outside contract trades in the fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation of equipment.
  • Review and update installation documentation and drawings as required.
  • Understanding use and set-up of machine controls for digital and analog I/O
  • Redline existing schematics and follow-up with drafting services or oversee draftsmen as required to resolve design issues.
  • Provide training to internal maintenance, and outside contract trades on new equipment installation procedures as required for successful execution of installation activities.
  • Analyze and correct equipment installation practices to improve efficiencies, specifically directed toward enhancing installation schedules.

DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Education required:

  • AAS Electrical Engineering Technology, BS Electrical Engineering Technology, or BS Electrical Engineering (Equivalent work experience may be considered in rare circumstances.)

Experience required:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience

  • Electro-mechanical troubleshooting ability, proficient with electrical schematics
  • Motion control knowledge: servo, stepper, DC, AC drives
  • Process variable understanding: flow, temperature, rate, pressure, level
  • Thorough understanding of current loops
  • Serial communication knowledge: RS232 / 485, Ethernet, IEEE-488
  • Machine control knowledge and understands classical control theory
  • Mechanical aptitude

Equipment or software experience preferred:

  • Windows, MS Office suite including Power Point, Excel, Word, AutoCAD 2023, AutoCAD Electrical 2023, PLC and PC based systems, Allen-Bradley PLC, Beckhoff PLC / Motion Control, B-R Control, Fanuc Robotics, C , Visual Basic, IFix, Automated equipment systems experience

Equipment familiarization preferred:

  • Fluke Meters, Oscilloscopes, and other electronic test equipment
  • Electronic calibration equipment
  • Precision flow calibration equipment
  • Programmable Controllers
  • Equipment used for machine installation activities: man lifts, label makers, hand tools, etc.

ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:

  • Team is based in Wilmington, NC. This posting is for a project initially based in Wilmington also. Often contractors that excel and are interested in continuing beyond the initial project may be considered for additional assignments. However, these additional projects may not be located at the same place as the initial posting. We have multiple plants in NC. Future travel requirements will vary based on project locations.
