Speakeasy
Technical Developer Advocate
Speakeasy, San Francisco, California, United States, 94199
Mission
Speakeasy is building the next generation of API infrastructure.
We help API producers offer a Stripe-like developer experience for all their APIs, by creating and maintaining best-in-class developer surfaces like idiomatic, feature-rich SDKs, Terraform providers and docs. Great developer experience accelerates API adoption, reduces the burden on support and engineering, and paves the way for emergent use cases.
At the same time we're building towards a vision of providing a complete suite of tooling to handle all of a company's API needs. We're leveraging platform engineering, code gen and LLMs to provide a platform that unburdens teams who are creating, maintaining and constantly evolving their APIs.
About the Role
As a Developer Advocate at Speakeasy, you will be contributing to our developer outreach. You'll help educate IC developers, team leads and CTOs on the importance of building an effective and developer friendly API platform.
This role is multi-faceted. A successful Developer Advocate will own initiatives such as:Writing high-quality content that is interesting and useful to a technical audience (not just meeting keyword criteria), such as how to build a TypeScript SDK from scratchCreating example code repos to supplement your writing, such as a Typescript SDK templateCollaborating with other team members on editing and improving each other's work.Distributing your own content where, when, and how you think it should be distributed.Running experiments to test out new content channels & formats: videos, podcasts, social, etc.Working with customers and partners to co-create contentEngaging frequently with developers in communities and forums, championing Speakeasy and providing market feedback to our teamAbout you
A great writer who loves storytellingA solid content portfolio. It can be for a company, or your own personal site. Years of experience are irrelevant.Comfortable with end-to-end ownership: we're a small team, we own content pieces from conception to distribution. We believe in context over control, and trust each other to own outcomes and drive projects to completionHighly agile and thrives under ambiguity: there are no set structures or processes, and we experiment rapidly. To succeed, you'll need to be comfortable forming a point of view and driving an agenda. When things don't work, you'll embrace shifting prioritiesA keen understanding of our target personas (typically eng and product leaders responsible for APIs), what they care about and what will resonate most with them. You need to be able to switch from the 35,000 foot macro view to the micro "hands-on" tutorial - sometimes in the same presentation, webinar or tutorialTechnically proficient: you'll be interacting with developers day-in and day-out. To be effective, you'll need to get very hands-on and in the weeds on details ranging from OpenAPI specifications, to programming idioms, to Speakeasy's product.(Optional bonus!) You have been a developer before. If you still love shipping code - dreaming up exciting content and then shipping it - that's a huge plus!Location: SF or London strongly preferred! We spend at least one, and ideally 2-3 days in the office together per weekWhat should you know about us?
We have hubs split roughly equally between San Francisco and London. This has its advantages and disadvantages. We follow async processes pretty well but it's not perfect. You'll help us get thereWe're a small team of 14. We are collaborative and supportive of each other, but believe in high ownership and autonomyWe are ambitious, passionate about what we do, and seek to be exceptional. If you are looking for a place to clock in and out or to simply punch a ticket, we are likely not a good fit for youWe serve tens of thousands of users, with customers from startups to large enterprisesBenefits and perks
Unlimited PTO. We'll bug you if you don't take enough time off. This is a marathon, not a sprint.Team off-sites and a travel budget for in-person collaborationsBest in class healthcare (medical / dental / vision at 100% for you) and 401K in the USA; private healthcare and pension plan for UK.WFH budget: choose your own perfect setup!
