B Electrician

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assembles, installs and maintains power distribution systems, lighting systems, electric motors, fire alarms, boilers, burners and controls, fare collection equipment and controls for various equipment including vehicle washers, vehicle hoists, lighting, heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment, pumps and air compressors.
- Locates and isolates defects in electrical systems and makes necessary repairs.
- Conducts test on apparatus and conductors energized up to 6 volts and 12 volts.
- Completes necessary work orders and inspection reports as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Required to have completed a four-year electrical apprenticeship.
- Must possess a minimum of five (5) years verifiable experience in the testing of electrical devices and wiring in buildings and building systems.
- Must possess a valid State of Illinois Class “A” Driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must pass a physical examination and perform the physical activities associated with this position.
- Must lift and carry materials weighing up to 100 pounds and work from ladders.
- Must be able to distinguish colors.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must competently read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Required to possess the skills necessary to perform basic arithmetical operations, including fractions, decimals and percentages.
- Must possess a thorough working knowledge of building, wiring and electrical circuit installation techniques for lighting, motors and controls.
- Must be competent in the use of electrical testing equipment, e.q. gauges, voltmeters, meters and volt meters.
- Required to be knowledgeable of applicable safety rules and regulations.
- Must be proficient in the use of programmer logic controllers.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Exposed to dirt and loud noises.
- Works close to electrically energized equipment including third rail along rapid transit right-of-way in existing weather conditions.
- Travels to and works at various locations throughout the system as assigned.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS UTILIZED
- Lift equipment, snorkels, boom lifts, power tools, rotary hammers, drills, saws, etc.
