Vacancy is in the Office of the Chief Operating Officer. Under general direction from the Chief Operating Officer, the incumbent directs and manages the Office of Arts, Culture, and Entertainment for the City of Hartford. Responsible for the creation and implementation of City-wide arts initiatives with an emphasis on promotion and marketing, community arts development, public art, and business improvement.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This position is in the unclassified service and the incumbent is appointed and serves at the pleasure of the Chief Operating Officer.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Promotes Hartford as a thriving, vibrant, and attractive destination for arts and culture to residents, the arts community, businesses, and visitors. Interacts with cultural organizations, creative individuals, key civic partners, and corporate and business sectors to promote the arts and cultural events in Hartford. Convene with groups of individuals involved in the arts to collectively build a strategic vision and carry out priorities. Coordinates and aligns Hartford with the statewide and national arts and cultural industry. Provides technical assistance and support for artists and art organizations in Hartford. Improves aesthetics of storefronts, signs, pedestrian walkways, public art, window displays, and promotional materials to create an appealing atmosphere and integrate art into every aspect of the City. Manages all arts/cultural grants and cultural affairs programs for the City. Manages all arts and cultural affairs program budgets, including the Arts and Culture fund, and provides input for future budget preparation. Works with other City Divisions and Departments on scheduling events and programs at City facilities. Prepares various reports and publicity including brochures, notices, catalogues, newsletters, bulletins, and press releases. The City of Hartford is seeking candidates for this role with:Knowledge of:Project and time management systems including the ability to multi-task while organizing complicated productions.Marketing, advertising, and communications experience for designing and publishing a wide range of publicity materials.Social media tools for e-marketing.Public administration, including budgeting and control.Ability to:Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and demonstrate first-class customer service skills when serving a demanding and diverse public.Manage and coordinate diverse program activities with other departments, private organizations, and agencies.Qualifications
