Substitute Bus Operator (Job #014-167-C)

Salary based upon paygrade and experience on current salary schedule (State and County)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent degree and classified as a Bus Operator or successful completion of all State required testing.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
FOR THE POSITION OF SUBSTITUTE BUS DRIVER
All bus drivers working for the school district shall be directly responsible to the Director of Transportation.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Each bus driver shall submit evidence of having passed a physical examination, of having received the annual health certification issued for school bus drivers, and completed a defensive driving course.A bus driver shall hold a special chauffer=s license. He/she shall adhere to and observe all the provisions of the vehicle code and all regulations prescribed in the pupil transportation handbook, by the state department of pupil instruction, and by the traffic safety department of the state highway commission and those which have been adopted by the board of education. He/she shall familiarize himself with traffic laws of the state.He/she shall keep the bus clean and check daily to see that equipment is in good condition. He/she shall once each week file a written report on the condition of his/her bus with the transportation office. He/she shall follow school bus routes and schedules as furnished by the immediate supervisor.If requested by the Board of Education, he/she shall attend an area school for school bus drivers for which the board shall pay the expenses of the driver while attending such a meeting. He/she shall perform such other related services as may be mutually agreed upon.Absence from duty - in case it is necessary to be absent from duty, drivers shall call the Director of Transportation.Be responsible to the Director of Transportation and have a good working relationship with the principal of the school or schools he/she serves.Require all students to comply with all bus rules.Take all precautions to operate buses safely.Report immediately any accident involving his/her school bus to the district office and the police.Transport only designated students and supervising personnel.Make stops at designated locations as approved by the Board of Education.Be willing to take activity trips as designated by the supervisor and requested by the principals.Submit logs and such other information as may be required by the administrative staff.Perform such other duties as may be assigned by his/her immediate supervisor.
