THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL Sciens Building Solutions seeks an experienced Senior Power BI Developer to join our data analytics team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining interactive dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI. You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to understand their needs and provide insights through data visualizations and analytical reports. As a senior member, you will also mentor junior developers and help drive the business intelligence strategy. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (and doing well) Power BI Development: Design and develop visually compelling, insightful, and interactive Power BI reports and dashboards to support decision-making processes across the organization. Data Modeling: Build efficient and scalable data models in Power BI using best practices, including Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) to ensure performance optimization. Data Integration: Connect Power BI to a wide variety of data sources such as SQL Server, Azure, Excel, SharePoint, and third-party APIs. Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and document reporting requirements and translating business needs into technical specifications. Performance Optimization: Identify bottlenecks in data processing and optimize queries, data models, and visualizations to improve report performance. Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior Power BI developers, helping them improve their skills and ensuring best practices are followed across the team. Reporting Automation: Implement solutions for automated report delivery and ensure data refresh schedules are working efficiently in Power BI Service. Collaboration: Work closely with data engineers, data analysts, and business users to ensure high-quality data integration, transformation, and reporting. Governance & Security: Implement Power BI governance and security models, ensuring that data is protected and that users have appropriate access levels. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest Power BI features and industry trends, applying new functionality to existing and new reports. WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT YOU Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field. Five (5) years of experience in business intelligence and reporting development, with a minimum of three (3) years working with Power BI. Strong experience in data modeling, DAX, and Power Query (M). Experience in creating complex reports, dashboards, and visualizations. Advanced knowledge of Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and Power BI Embedded. Proficiency with SQL, including writing complex queries for data extraction and transformation. Experience with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes. Familiarity with other BI tools like SSRS, Tableau, or QlikView is a plus. Strong experience with Microsoft Azure services, such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, or Azure SQL Database. Understanding of programming/scripting languages such as Python or R is beneficial. Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities. Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work. Travel up to 25% required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Power BI certification (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate). Experience in implementing Row-Level Security (RLS) in Power BI. Knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices for managing large datasets. Experience working in Agile or Scrum methodologies.
