Vehicle Integration and Test Intern - Summer 2025

Relativity Space Internships, Long Beach, California, us, 90899

At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity's industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth - where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. While our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing. Your journey with us is more than just a job - it's an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality. About the Team: The Vehicle Integration and Test team at Relativity Space pulls together the efforts of all other engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver flight-ready vehicles for test and launch. To meet our goals, we will build best in class manufacturing, test, and quality control processes to keep our team moving fast while still producing high quality, well understood products. The Vehicle Integration and Test Engineers will be responsible for defining and executing the vehicle-level build flow/operations and test verification plans for all hardware that comes through the Integration work center. This role lives within the Integration Engineering team which drives efforts to establish the manufacturing, business practices and processes necessary to accomplish that goal. Partnering with the Vehicle Manufacturing team, the Vehicle Integration and Test team will be the focal points for putting together all of the pieces of the vehicle, ensuring the first rockets built in our factory are primed and ready for their first orbital flight. What you'll do: Define, architect, and establish the product flow of flight hardware through the Integration workcenter. Identify and implement the tools required to support an optimized, efficient flow - from large scale tools to test stands. Identify capital tooling and work center capability needs and lead the efforts of standing up key Factory capabilities. Develop integrated test plans and procedures from conceptualization through execution to verify flight hardware is ready for shipment. Help drive the development of business tools and processes that will be used to manufacture the first launch vehicle. In parallel, define and pilot the long-term ERP, MES, and QMS solutions that will enable high-quality, efficient vehicle manufacturing. Past intern projects (just a few examples) Tested flight quick disconnects Implemented computer vision on the robots to implemented live depth data Worked on adding automated sanding/grinding capabilities to our print cells Worked on test stand infrastructure to help run tests more often and more efficiently Oversaw designing the PCB for the High Voltage Battery Management System (HVBMS) Helped set up an anomaly detection framework for stargate printers Printed rocket engine parts Skills/Competencies we're looking for: Obtaining BS or MS degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, manufacturing engineering or related field. 1 years relevant internship experience preferred, not required Experience leading, executing, or management projects in a fast-paced environment through engineering projects. Experience planning and test conducting hardware-critical operations, working with DAQs for test article command/control preferred, not required. To be successful in this role, you need to be able to thrive in ambiguity, identify problems and quickly resolve them, and provide definition to the previously undefined. You will need to balance a scrappy, get-it-done attitude with a vision for the long-term processes required for scaling and efficiency We believe varied perspectives & backgrounds strengthen our team. Prior experience in aerospace is not required. At Relativity Space, we are committed to transparency and fairness in our compensation practices. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors. Compensation is only one part of our total rewards package.
