The Town of Sharon seeks a part-time (19 hours/week) reliable van driver to transport elderly and disabled citizens to and from appointed destinations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Transport elderly and disabled citizens in getting to and from medical appointments; assists passengers in getting in and out of vehicles by opening doors and providing physical assistance to those who request or need it; may assist by carrying packages to doorway; ensures that passengers safely enter their dwellings.Operate a lift-equipped passenger van; operate manual and automatic wheelchair lift and mobile communication equipment; utilize vehicle cleaning equipment and hand tools. Monitors condition of vehicles including tires, gas, oil, and body; reports problems or deficiencies to supervisor; maintains cleanliness of vehicles at all times. Maintains daily log of mileage and other pertinent date including names of passengers, gas usage, hours of work, etc.
Qualifications and experience:
High school graduate, or equivalent; experience in working with elderly persons desirable; 3 years' experience operating manual/automatic lift and communications equipment; or a combination of equivalent education and experience.Possession of a valid Massachusetts Driver's license required. Must have an excellent driving record and skill in driving a large van in all types of weather conditions.Certification in CPR, First Aid, defibrillator and wheelchair securement. Medical/eye exam, CORI check and drug/alcohol testing required.General knowledge of the town street system and community facilities is helpful. Expert knowledge in operating a passenger van with lift. Ability to interact with elderly and disabled persons in a positive and sensitive manner. Ability to perform duties with some latitude for individual judgment.Starting Salary:
$22.8314/hour; increases to $23.8121/hour after one year; no benefits
