HDR is looking for an
Electrical Business Class Lead (BCL ) to join our Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group in Seatte/Bellevue, WA. Engineering BCL are leaders in their practice who are "Best In Class" and influence technical aptitude, culture, morale, recruiting, and industry representation as well as provide leadership in the pursuit and delivery of work. Engineering BCL at HDR not only have deep engineering expertise in their discipline, but they understand how cross-discipline teams function and are known in the industry for their market knowledge and client relationships. They couple that understanding with leadership abilities to positively impact the success of the business.
The
Electrical BCL
will assist with business development and be responsible for providing electrical engineering expertise and mentoring to lead teams which produce electrical systems design for buildings and other facilities in a variety of markets including Water/Wastewater, Transportation, Municipal, Industrial, Federal, Resources, Healthcare, Telecom, Data Centers, Aerospace, Pharmaceutical, and Commercial.
The BCL will be responsible for the operation of the Washington Area BES electrical group in conjunction with their electrical Section Team Leads. The BCL responsibilities include business development, active industry engagement, cross-business group coordination, staff recruitment, staff development, workflow and forecasting, proposals and level of effort, scheduling, profitability, morale, and quality control, and also function as a technical lead on projects or as a project/design/task manager on certain projects in addition to staff management responsibilities. They will select, train, develop, and manage technical personnel, and help identify/recruit talented staff to enable our electrical section to grow to meet the design needs of the BES business group. They will be administratively responsible for the group and technical service functions and will lead and coordinate services with other disciplines. They will be directly involved with clients in project production and related issues, and will implement, monitor, and support company policy.
When assigned as technical lead or project/design/task manager, they will be expected to coordinate and work closely with a multidiscipline design team throughout the entire life cycle of projects from planning stages, through the development of construction documents, and construction administration. They will be responsible for the development of construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations, as well as the review of shop drawings during construction.This individual should be self-motivated, collaborative and possess strong leadership skills with an initiative to deliver high quality, technically sound electrical engineering designs.

Take responsibility for area coordination, monitoring and improvement of technical competencies of electrical business class staff and work products to meet client needs and market drivers, all within direction and goals of business class plansOversight and collaboration with Section Team Leads and work cooperatively with National Business Class DirectorsParticipate in delivery of project services to meet client expectationsCollaborate on business class efforts with area operations, marketing and project managementParticipate in HDR internal business class practice or professional discipline groups, project teams and activities to continually improve standards and best practices, and implement effective quality assurance and quality control reviewsParticipate in business class strategic planning, budgeting and plan implementationTake responsibility for the operations of the electrical section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing supportIn conjunction with the Section Team Leads take administrative responsibility for electrical section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other multidiscipline team membersParticipate in project quality checks and reviews with various governing agencies for technical content and code complianceAs a technical lead, conduct schematic, design development and contract document, design and production work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager, Project Architect and other disciplinesTrack the financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust the work effort with the team to ensure that the work is completed within the parameters of the agreed-upon scheduleEstablish client relations, and participate in the marketing (planning, proposals, and interviews)Represent HDR in the A/E industry, being actively engaged in technical societies, professional organizations, conferences, and committees.Perform other duties as neededPreferred Qualifications
Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand, business development, and recruitingPrior leadership and direct supervision of a team of engineers and designers spread out geographicallyMaster's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasisA minimum of 10 years experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems); previous experience with an architectural/ engineering or engineering consulting firm desired.Preference given to local candidatesProficiency with the following software packages:SKM Power Systems Analysis, Revit, Microsoft Office, and BlueBeamLicensed as a professional engineer (PE) in Washington state#LI-BM1
