Nature of Work
Responsible technical work in enforcing applicable national, state, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations in the City's Capital Improvements Projects Office through reviewing architectural and engineering plans, specifications and contract documents of new and existing projects. Work includes field and office duties. Considerable fieldwork consisting of site visits to works in progress to verify compliance or non-compliance or contractor's work with construction drawings. Includes the monitoring of work in progress.
Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties
Conducts technical field inspections of existing and new construction projects; monitors capital improvement projects daily to enforce applicable building codes, ordinances, and regulations.Prepares reports, records, and correspondence concerning inspections.Oversees contracted work on a daily basis for compliance with applicable laws, codes, ordinances, drawings, specifications, and contract documents.Reviews plans for needed changes and makes recommendations to supervisors.Responds to community complaints or concerns.Delivers specific project information, notifications and announcements to communities or neighborhoods.Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum Requirements
College level courses in civil engineering, and
Two (2) years experience in sub-professional engineering and/or Architecture and/or construction work.
Experience can substitute for education.Physical Requirements::
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and occasional inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.For all positions:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation.Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies.
