Reporting to the Department Finance Manager, incumbent conducts complex and high level administrative analysis that requires on-going interaction with all levels of University and agency faculty and staff. Responsibilities for the financial and administrative processing and management of all federal, state or private contract and grant funds, maintaining departmental compliance with University policies and procedures and CAS guidelines pertaining to contract and grant
management, purchasing, travel expense reimbursement, and personnel and payroll management. Provides recommendations as well as training for revision and development of departmental policies related to Accounting policies and Business Office procedures. Interface with Contract & Grant Accounting, Office of Research Administration, and School of Medicine Finance for resolution of difficult administrative or financial issues. Assists Finance Manager with special projects requiring complex analysis. Responsible for initiation of on-line journals, transfers of funds, payroll correcting entries and financial reporting to Principal Investigators.What It Takes to be Successful
Required:Knowledge of federal regulations governing research activity: OMB A-21, A110 and A- 133, including requirements for time and effort reporting. Knowledge of NIH policies governing the conduct of research.Working knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and good business practices.Demonstrated organization skills and ability to prioritize assignments when faced with heavy workload and competing deadlines.Proven ability to work independently and carry out assigned tasks reliably with minimal direction.Demonstrated skills to independently analyze situations, interpret data, define problems and/or objectives, identify relevant factors, and formulate logical conclusions and recommendations.Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels of the campus community.Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate in a professional manner in all circumstances.Demonstrated skill in handling detailed transactions throughout tedious review and approval process.Proficiency in English in order to read, understand and interpret complex documents,including detained information on University accounting policies and practices, and contract and grant administrative regulations.Excellent writing skills and skill in modifying and/or adapting materials and information to create understandable technical information.Proficiency in computerized information systems to gather award, personnel and expenditure data from UCI on line sources.Demonstrated experience in working as a member of a team, being willing to offer services and to request assistance under appropriate circumstances.Demonstrated ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Preferred:Knowledge of University accounting principles and cost accounting standards. Previous UC system experience.Familiarity with UCI on-line financial systems including General Ledger, Employee Database, and Data Warehouse.Demonstrated experience with UC accounting, contract and grants award management, purchasing, and equipment management policies, procedures and practices.Previous experience with processing financial journals and fund transfers.Working knowledge of faculty salary compensation processes.Familiarity with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPointTotal CompensationIn addition to the salary range listed below, we offer a wealth of benefits to make working at UCI even more rewarding.
