Job Description

Barrett, The Honors College seeks an enthusiastic and organized Student Support Specialist for a high-volume advising office at the Tempe campus. Being part of the Barrett Advising Office means actively engaging in our mission of supporting honors students at ASU. This role requires exceptional customer service and a positive and professional demeanor while managing the operations of the Barrett Advising Front Desk. The Student Support Specialist will become an expert in honors advising policies, procedures, and goals in order to support student success. This role is seen as the face of the Barrett Advising Office and a key stakeholder in many of the processes associated with Barrett Advising.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer.Background Check Statement

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND one year of administrative and appropriate program experience; OR, Five years of progressively responsible administrative and appropriate program experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Essential Duties

Demonstrates commitment to Barrett, The Honors College mission and values and understands the functions and goals of honors advising, including an understanding of Barrett and ASU academic policies and procedures.Coordinates front desk area operations, including in-person visitors and appointment check-ins, phone/email communication, and overseeing budget and office supplies inventory.Maintains calendars and oversees appointment scheduling system for advising staff.Hires and supervises front desk student workers. Provides ongoing training and guidance for student employees.Proficient with technology. Utilizes Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Zoom (Video and phone).Processes paperwork and online documents (e.g., thesis-related documents, petitions, registration forms) and enters into office systems.Oversees processing, printing, and mailing of honors graduation certificates each semester.Attends and participates in staff meetings, professional development seminars, and other student support-related meetings. This may include preparing agendas, taking minutes, and being actively engaged.Maintains strong positive relations with others in the college and across the university. Works well with others on team projects. Skilled in developing and maintaining effective working relationships.Participates in college events.Performs other duties as assigned.Schedule: 8:00 am-5:00 pm, Monday-Friday
