To obtain blood samples from patients by venipuncture or skin puncture observing proper phlebotomy technique and patient identification policies. Exhibiting a caring and courteous manner to all patients and guests is required. Responding immediately to STAT requests and drawing other specimens in a timely manner. Processing and receiving specimens into the laboratory computer system in the Central Processing area of the lab.

Responsibilities:
1. To obtain blood samples from patients by venipuncture or skin puncture observing proper phlebotomy technique and patient identification policies. Responding immediately to STAT requests and drawing other specimens in a timely manner.2. Demonstrates service excellence in all patient care activities exhibiting a caring and courteous manner to all patients and guests. Promotes teamwork and quality in all interactions with co-workers, physicians, physician offices, nurses and other departments. Presents professional image while actively promotes the Hospital's and the Department's Mission, Vision, Values and Goals.3. Processing and receiving specimens into the laboratory computer system in the Central Processing area of the lab.
Qualifications:EDUCATIONHigh School Diploma is required. College or technical school courses are preferred.EXPERIENCEPrevious phlebotomy experience preferred(2 years). Computer familiarity and keyboard skills are required. A friendly caring personality is necessary for public relations.LICENSURECertification is phlebotomy is a plus but not required.SPECIAL SKILLSThe phlebotomy activity requires manual dexterity with an excellent fine motor skills. Working with patients directly, a great deal of emphases is placed on patient interpersonal skills.PHYSICAL DEMANDPhlebotomy may require extended periods of standing bent over patients, walking throughout the hospital carrying a basket and using the stairs. Computer work in an average laboratory setting. May be required to enter isolation rooms using proper isolation technique including proper mask fitting.
