Job Summary

  • Administers general medical and psychiatric care to facility residents while assisting in the medication administration procedure and monitoring residents for potential medication side effects.
  • Applies practical nursing techniques and standard practices
General Accountabilities
  • Assists in the coordinating, scheduling and oversight of medical treatment for all facility residents including the including providing support during the admission process and initiation of appropriate healthcare referrals
  • Collaborates with Program Director, Administrator and Psychiatrist to ensure that healthcare requirements for residents are met.
  • Assists in the implementation of activities and functions associated with ordering, monitoring and handling of medications including but not limited to Physician's Orders and vital signs.
  • Administers medication and monitors patients for potential medication side effects.
  • Exercises judgement and skills in recognizing basic symptoms indicative of patient adverse reactions and consults with supervisor and/or alerts medical staff.
  • Follows Physician's Orders while monitoring patients and reporting to Psychiatrist as needed.
  • Assisting in the interpretation and application of Physician's Orders.
  • Administers or assists staff in administering triage.
  • Maintains and manages medical and psychiatric records in and organized and timely fashion so as to meet the standards of care, accreditation, resident care needs and licensing requirements.
  • Completes all documentation including but not limited to incident reports and progress notes.
  • Supports staff in addressing resident's healthcare concerns.
  • Provides supervision of Mental Health Workers.
  • Participates in required in-service education
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications:

Required Licensure: A valid California Vocational Nursing and/or Psychiatric Technician license issued by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.
  • Minimum Experience: One (1) year of post-licensure experience in a mental health setting.
  • A clear criminal record review and fingerprint background check
  • A health screening, including a tuberculosis test, performed by or under the supervision of a physician showing that the LVN/LPT is physically, mentally and occupationally capable of performing assigned tasks.
