The Toledo Clinic's Oncology Department is seeking a Credentialed Medical Assistant (RMA/CMA) or Licensed LPN to work full-time at our Holland-Sylvania Ave office location in Toledo OH. This position will be scheduled Mon-Fri (8-4:30). Full-time position offering employee benefits.

Toledo Clinic is offering a $2,000 Sign-On Bonus to qualified Medical Assistants and Certified Patient Care Techs. Sign-On Bonuses are payable within 30 days of hire to employees that have active and verified credentials (ex: RMA/CMA/CCMA/CPCT/A). For candidates that have not yet obtained or need to renew their credential, the Sign-On Bonus is payable once the credential is obtained and verified. After one year of service, qualified Medical Assistants/Certified Patient Care Techs will be eligible for an additional $2,000 Retention Bonus.

General Summary:

This person prepares and administers non-chemotherapy injections and other nursing duties in the Infusion Room. Responsible to assist physician(s) and nursing staff with patient treatment. Assists in rooming patients and completes various clerical duties as needed. A rotation between rooming patients for physicians and advanced practitioners and running and administering an injection clinic with the infusion rooms is a possibility, as well as other clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. The position is responsible for chart preparation for upcoming appointments. Appointment responsibilities include to prepare the patient for the provider visit including collection and entry of vital signs, weight, and other pertinent clinical information. The position is also responsible for operation of the assigned office lab functions including venipuncture, runs, and documents lab tests/result.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Standard 1 - Clinical responsibilities

  • Administers non-chemotherapy injections in the Infusion room and other non-chemotherapy treatments
  1. Prepares and administers non-chemotherapy injections
  2. Accurately completes billing process using Inventory Management machine to assure proper billing of medications used.
  3. Provides patient education on all medications administered
  4. Assists with screening patients, bringing back to Infusion Room
  5. Obtains vital signs and weight
  6. Medication reconciliation as needed
  7. Assists on nursing inbox as needed
  8. Orders supplies for infusion room and restocks supplies as needed
  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include:
    1. Checking schedules and organizing patient flow
    2. Accompanying patients to exam/procedure room
    3. Assisting patient as needed (walking, transfers, specimen collection)
    4. Collects patient information
      • Height, weight, allergies
      • Medication Reconciliation
      • Health Maintenance
      • Social, medical, surgical history
      • Review of Systems
  • Utilizes EMR to record patient specific data
  • Identifies trigger questions for Social Determinants of Health and notifies providers of needs
  • Performs venipuncture on patients as needed and sends timely
  • Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned:
    1. Setting up and assisting with bone marrow procedures
    2. Cleans exam rooms between patient visits
    3. Cleans equipment
    4. Verifies equipment is in working order and takes appropriate action if it is not
    5. Follows maintenance schedule for all biomedical equipment
    6. Orders, sorts, and stores supplies
    7. Restocks exam rooms
  • Other duties as assigned


Standard 2 - Clerical Responsibilities
  • Sends and receives patient medical records
  • Access all health system portals to obtain information
  • Chart preparation for upcoming visits
    • Obtaining lab and x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information
    • Information related to hospital admissions
  • Coordinates with physicians re: missing test results to determine if appointment should occur
  • Completes forms and requisitions as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Required:

Medical Assistant degree or Licensed Practical Nurse Degree. 1 year of Medical Office or Healthcare setting experience. Current CPR certification required. Medical Assistant certification and /or registration or LPN license required
  • Ability to excel in an environment of constant change, problems and unexpected interruptions, where extreme pressure to deliver results is expected.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with physicians and non-physician support staff.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications.
  • Working knowledge of Clinical IT applications.

Preferred:

Previous clerical experience in a physician office preferred
