Position Summary:

This position is the technical resource for the field sales and internal sales force and is responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process. Working in conjunction with the sales team as the technical advisor and product advocate, the Application Engineer must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process. The Application Engineer must be able to establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle. May have direct contact with customer to review technical requirements and project design details.

Essential Functions:Maintains expert level of product knowledge and applicationListens, understands, and conveys customer requirementsManages technical deliverables for engineered to order projects:

Reviews customer technical specifications and prepares the system description/mark-upsServes as technical contact for customers relating to warranty or field issuesEnsures engineering requirements are prepared and delivered to the customerResponsible for maintaining professional business relationships

Provides technical support for customer visits, preparing technical presentations, and is the lead engineering representative for preparing quotes and/or drawings and modelsLeads the product design efforts to meet specific customer requirements. Write technical documentation relevant to specific projects. Check fabrication drawingsDefines the mechanical design of the product/system providing concept models/mark-ups to design departmentUtilizes appropriate design tools, perform the sizing and application functions, and may also generate dimensional and fabrication drawings for manufacturingWorks closely with the project manager to align deliverables, overall project schedule and requirementsProvides application and sizing information to sales departmentProvides issue resolution for production and warranty issues and order changesIdentifies customer's needs and sales opportunities to help future growthProvides technical assistance and training in the areas of product application, sizing, selection, and design to sales personnel as requiredEducation / Experience:

B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent degree in a related technical field preferredMinimum of 5 years of experience in Engineering or related fieldKnowledge of the physical/chemical principles of heat and mass transfer and fluid dynamicsMust have working knowledge of instrumentation used for test and evaluationExperience in process coating and drying applications a plusAble to train and work in a team environmentExperience with sheet metal, steel fabrication, welding, and manufacturing processPersonal Characteristics

Good verbal and written communication skills, including proficient technical writing skillsA team oriented, self-starting individual capable of working with little supervisionExcellent problem-solving skills and root cause analysis toolsAbility to communicate to a broad range of audiences and technical disciplines in a clear and understandable mannerStrong organizational and project management skills with a commitment to qualityAble to train and work in a team environment, actively encourages, and engages others and seeks inputs and ideasPhysical Requirements

This position requires the ability to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.Consistently operates a computer and other office equipment such as a, copy machine, computer printer, calculator, etc.Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the workdayAbility to frequently communicate, verbally and or written with employees, management, vendors, and customersThis position may occasionally require manufacturing plant visits to review and inspect work in various stages of manufacturing and assemblyWill require occasional travel to customer sites for meetings and equipment evaluation.Internal Transfer or Promotion Requirements:
