Job Description

Responsible for the development, coordination, planning, administration, supervision and delivery of a high-quality Aquatics program that is fully integrated into the BVFYMCA’s mission, and strategic and operating plans. Programming shall have a full range of aquatic options including but not limited to group swim lessons, fitness classes, adapted aquatics and competitive swim team.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Certification Requirements:

a. Immediately upon hire: lifeguarding certification (ARC); American Red Cross First Aid & CPR for Professional Rescuer; AED, O2 and state-mandated concussion training.

b. Within 6 months of hire : YSL, LGI (ARC).

c. Within 1 year of hire : become YSL Trainer & complete YMCA Aquatic Management (YAM) and POOL.

d. Within 2 years of hire : become trainer level in another aquatics area (POOL, YAM, Water Fitness, AOA, Arthritis, Disabilities, Principles of Swimming and Diving, Swim Officials 1 &2).

  • 1 or more years in a leadership role that includes supervision, program development, and fiscal management.
  • Highly effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in staff development and leadership.
  • Ability to work independently and flexibility to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrated experience in budget and fiscal management.
  • Knowledge of current aquatic safety and program standards, latest trends in aquatics and the ability to articulate and incorporate them.
Essential Functions
  • Direct and supervise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Establish new program activities and expand program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Review, approve and submit staff time cards to payroll per schedule. Manage time off requests.
  • Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA healthy and safety regulations.
  • Supervise the maintenance of the pools including equipment, chemicals, daily chlorine, pH, temperature readings and backwash procedures. Maintain accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Conduct lifeguard, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Plan, coordinate, and schedule swim and water fitness classes. Work with other staff to enhance participation levels and meet the goals and objectives of the YMCA Aquatic Programs.
  • Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information while adhering to the graphic standards related to the Y brand.
  • Develop and monitor program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Lead all required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Provide all departmental staff with training opportunities to improve procedures and increase proficiency. Ensure all mandatory training session are scheduled and funded.
  • Research and purchase new equipment utilizing purchase orders and check requests.
  • Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures; including emergency and safety procedures. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
