JOB OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a results-driven and strategic Senior Director of Product Marketing and Growth to lead the growth of Common Sense Media. This critical leadership role will focus on driving user acquisition, engagement, and retention for our membership program on the app and website, while developing and executing strategies to broaden the adoption of our educational curriculum in classrooms worldwide. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of scaling membership-based products using data-driven and growth marketing strategies that align with our mission and values.
LOCATION: San Francisco, California (minimum three days a week in person), with travel required
REPORTS TO: Chief Marketing Officer
SALARY: $140,000–$166,250
TYPE: Full-time, exempt
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Growth Strategy for Paid Membership: Lead and implement growth strategies using cutting-edge AI and predictive analytics to drive user acquisition, engagement, and retention for paid membership. Develop and optimize growth funnels to maximize paid subscriber conversions and lifetime value.
- Scale the Educator and School Network: Develop and execute digital marketing initiatives to expand the reach of Common Sense Media's educational resources in schools and with educators through scaled engagements.
- Product Marketing Leadership: Own the go-to-market strategy for new features and updates of the Common Sense Media app, ensuring clear communication of value propositions and benefits to target audiences. Collaborate with product, design, and development teams to enhance the user experience and increase engagement.
- Data-Driven Growth: Use data and analytics to identify growth opportunities, optimize acquisition channels, and track key performance metrics such as customer acquisition cost (CAC), customer lifetime value (CLV), and user churn. Regularly report on growth initiatives and their impact on the business.
- Lead and Oversee User Research Initiatives: Design, plan, and manage user research projects to uncover actionable insights into customer needs, behaviors, and motivations. Leverage qualitative and quantitative research methods to inform product development, marketing strategies, and user experience enhancements, ensuring that findings are translated into data-driven decisions that align with business objectives. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to integrate user insights into every stage of the product life cycle.
- Pricing and Packaging Strategy: Work with the product and finance teams to refine pricing models and membership packages that increase conversion and retention. Develop and test membership tiers, freemium models, and discounts targeted at families and educators.
- AI-Forward Marketing Expertise: Proven ability to leverage AI-driven tools and strategies to enhance brand marketing initiatives, including personalized content creation, targeted customer engagement, and predictive analytics.
- Team Leadership: Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing product marketing and growth team. Foster a collaborative and innovative work culture that prioritizes user-centric strategies and data-driven decision-making.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the content, education, communications, product, and partnerships teams to align marketing strategies with organizational objectives and product road maps.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of experience in product marketing, growth marketing, or related roles, with a strong focus on membership-/subscription-based products.
- Proven track record of driving growth through data-driven and AI-enabled strategies, including experience with user acquisition, engagement, and retention for digital products.
- Significant experience in planning, executing, and optimizing online paid advertising campaigns across key digital channels to drive acquisition, engagement, and brand visibility. Skilled in managing budgets, maximizing ROI, and using analytics to refine strategies and ensure continual improvement.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience building and leading high-performing marketing teams.
- Exceptional analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to use data and insights to inform strategic decisions and optimize growth funnels.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders across various departments.
- Knowledge of digital marketing strategies, including SEO, SEM, social media, and content marketing.
- Expertise in marketing to educators, schools, or other educational institutions is a plus.
