Position in this function is responsible for drawing blood on patients, performing necessary in-house testing, and preparing specimens sent to reference lab.
Primary Responsibilities:
Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood productsPerforms venipuncture using vacutainer, syringe and butterfly techniques; capillary punctures using heel and finger stick techniques on patients. Identifies and labels specimensConducts designated laboratory testingInstructs patients on urine collection procedures. Allocates urine specimensCleans and sterilizes equipment, instruments, and work areaInventories supplies and places ordersEnters laboratory data into computer systemMaintains patient confidentialityEnters Data accurately and timelyMonitors biohazard wasteEnsures preventive maintenance is performed on all equipment and monitorsResponds timely to abnormal and panic valuesMaintains knowledge of all routine container and minimum volumes required for specimen collectionPerforms all other related duties as assignedYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
High school graduate or GED equivalentCurrent National certification or registration as Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist
or
the ability to obtain the certification within 180 days of employment.Phlebotomists who are hired prior to receiving their certification are expected to perform at the same level as a "certified" Phlebotomist1+ years of related experienceKnowledge of laboratory techniques to perform routine blood and urine testsKnowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checksKnowledge of medical terminologySkill in operating a variety of laboratory instrumentationSkill in preparing written reports concerning the results of laboratory tests and input data into computer systemSkill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the publicComputer literacyProven ability to maintain all materials for collectionProven ability to read and understand oral and written instructionsProven ability to follow written protocolsProven ability to work independentlyProven good communication and customer service skillsThis position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of diseasePreferred Qualifications:
CLA or ASCP Certified2+ years of experience in a medical settingPhysical & Mental Requirements:
Ability to properly drive and operate a company vehicleAbility to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
