JOB SUMMARY Within a patient centered culture, the Medical Assistant (MA) will assist provider and nursing staff to deliver optimal patient care and work with others to achieve efficient clinical and business operations. The MA will facilitate the flow of patients and care by performing clerical and administrative tasks, assisting in patient care, and maintaining the physical environment of the area.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education : • High School Diploma or GED (Required) Preferred: • Graduate of accredited school of Medical Assistant • MA Certification/Registration from accredited program• Associate's degree in Medical Assisting
Experience/Physical Requirements : • 2 years of clinical experience in place of MA program. Demonstrated proficiency with administering a variety of routine patient care procedures (i.e. taking blood pressure, temperature, pulse) • Computer literacy and familiarity with medical terminology preferred; knowledge normally acquired through previous training or experience. • Effective interpersonal communication skills Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force or more constantly. Includes frequent lifting and or carrying or objects up to 50 lbs. with maximum lift of 100 lbs. Exposure to all patient elements including communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
Licensure/Certification : • Basic Life SupportBasic Life Support (BLS) CertificationCPR Certification (to be obtained within probationary period if not already obtained)

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES General Skills:Possesses sufficient skills to perform the job in an efficient and effective manner. Can demonstrate skills and knowledge in day-to-day situations, including the use of equipment associated with job responsibilities. Performs patient care as well as administrative tasks. Clinical Skills:Clinical tasks may include administering a variety of routine patient care procedures (i.e. taking blood pressure, temperature, pulse, etc.) and related administrative tasks acquired through formal training and on-the-job experience. Collects, records and maintains patient information including but not limited to vitals, patient history, medical records, and results. May assist with and/or perform select medical procedures including but not limited to emergency response, venipuncture, CLIA waived testing, injections, breathing treatments, EKGs, Strep/Flu swabs, urine dip testing, pregnancy testing, vital signs assessment, etc. as required. Follows up on testing, results, refill requests, and procedures as directed. Maintains sanitary and aseptic environment to promote infection control. Follows proper protocol in all activities.Administrative Skills:Provides front desk assistance, such as answering phone calls, scanning, working referrals, obtaining/completing paperwork, filing, making appointments, registering patients, returning phone calls, etc. Must be able to use the computer and telephone effectively and accurately to document medical and demographic information. May assist or perform pre-authorizations and financial transactions. May be involved in stock inventory or supply ordering. Productivity:Meets productivity standards that have been established for the position and/or department. Prioritizes multiple tasks. Completes assignments per protocol or as directed. Embraces new and innovative approaches that will improve efficiency. Understanding:Takes responsibility for clarifying job responsibilities, including the need to understand performance standards and other expectations. Communicates with supervisor regularly to ensure that there is no misunderstanding about how performance will be measures and how expectations relate to the job. Seeks clarification as needed or when responsibilities are not understood. Willingly accepts change. Will work in clinics across the physician enterprise as needed. Travel is required.Communication:Effective interpersonal communication skills used to maintain cooperative working relationships. Includes the ability to both write clearly and concisely as well as communicating effectively using the spoken word.
