Job Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Executive, the Director of Respiratory Care oversees day-to-day- management and execute administrative, clinical, and operational requirements in Lincoln Hospital. Serves as expert consultant and advisor for delivering patient-centered, quality care and a culture of safety in accordance with regulatory and accreditation guidelines.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the management, direction, and coordination of the Respiratory Care Activities.Conduct physical rounds of the service areas.Participate with the medical leadership in planning and implementing standards of care and practice for Respiratory Care Services.Assist in the data collection, conduct analysis, and distribution of outcomes to all staff.Recruits, trains, supervises, and coaches staff in order to maximize productivity.Routinely assesses staff learning needs and implements a competency assessment program to meet identified gaps.Monitors staff compliance in meeting hospital or regulatory requirements (i.e. OHS, Annual In-Service, Performance Evaluations, etc.)Ensures personnel are continually competent to perform their responsibilities in accordance with Corporate, TJC, and Federal and State regulations. Leads team in Regulatory Preparedness.Ensures fiscal stability and introduces cost efficiencies; prepares and monitors departmental budget/expenses.Participates in strategic planning and business development with senior executives to launch and monitor new program initiatives.Develops and ensures compliance with internal and external policies and procedures.Ensures departmental staffing is balanced and develops monthly schedules based on business needs and financial restraints of the hospital.Works collaboratively with primary stakeholders to develop and implement best practice guidelines and protocols while maintaining key matrixes that will be used to continually drive improvement.Implements interdisciplinary collaboration to improve patient outcomes, utilizing 'Lean Thinking' Root Cause Analysis, and other quality measures of improvement.Develop and disseminate policies and programs to support the facility's transformational goals, performance improvement efforts, and strategic objectives.Coordinates and monitors the performance improvement activities for the Respiratory Care Service and the implementation of PI Projects.Performs other related duties, as directed.Minimum Qualifications
Qualification Requirements:1. Holds and maintains a Respiratory Therapist License issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED); and,2. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Respiratory Therapy, Public Health, or a related field; and, five (5) years of satisfactory Respiratory Department experience in a hospital or health care setting, three (3) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity; or,3. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in fields, as described in "2" above; and, seven (7) years of satisfactory Respiratory Department experience in a hospital or health care setting, three (3) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity; or,4. A satisfactory equivalent of education, training, and experience. However, all candidates must have at least a Baccalaureate degree in fields, as described in "2" above, and be licensed and currently registered by the NYSED to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in New York State.
