In addition to being responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, maintenance and preservation, and sterile processing, of all instruments, equipment, and non-sterile supplies at the center. This job organizes and implements staff education, completes staff schedules and assignments, documents regulatory reports for QI, organizes the instrument and processing needs with all new service lines, identifies and implements quality improvement initiatives, schedules all service activities on equipment and instruments, and maintains sterile processing policies and procedures.**THIS IS A SURGERY CENTER POSITION WITH NO WEEKENDS, NIGHTS, ON-CALL, OR HOLIDAYS REQUIRED**JOB SPECIFIC CORE COMPETENCIES: The Technician Sterile Processing Lead is responsible for facilitating the duties of sterile processing in the surgical environment. The Technician Sterile Processing Lead is responsible for collecting and reporting data of sterilized items. The Technician Sterile Processing Lead works effectively with others consistently demonstrating tact, discretion, diplomacy and a commitment to teamwork the L.O.V.E Promise and Patients First.QUALIFICATIONS:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervisor accountabilities: Supervises daily functions of Instrument Processing by assisting the OR manager with daily process flow. Organizes new hire and on-going staff education, and maintains documentation. Completes sterile processing staff schedules and assignments. Identifies the needs of the department and coordinates with OR Manager to meet the needs. Collects and organizes sterile processing data for the Center QI committee (IUSS, Early Release of Implants, Unusual Occurrence Reports, etc.). Identifies and takes the lead for process improvement projects related to sterile processing. Works with OR Manager to ensure availability of all needed instruments including loaner sets and implants. Demonstrates proficiency with software systems for surgical schedule, preference cards, QI reporting, staff schedules, etc. Evaluates and establishes priority of duties on a daily basis. Available as a resource person to staff for instrument sets and the sterilization process. Readily available to answer questions/needs during scheduled surgery hours. Communicates safety concerns to the OR team leader (improper handling of sharps, needs, blades, etc.) by OR staff. Conducts self in a professional manner. Fosters collaboration and includes caregivers in problem solving and continuous improvement. Promotes department goals by selecting, motivating, and training capable staff. Follows established practices and procedures in analyzing situations, data or process from which answers can be readily obtained. May conduct performance reviews and provides input on direct reports for human resource decisions such as hiring and promotion. Develops others through coaching, feedback and opportunities. Clearly and concisely conveys information and ideas to individuals and team by communicating in a focused and compelling way. Works to proactively think through next steps and anticipate potential issues, requests, or business needs. Openly shares knowledge and expertise. Sterile Processing/Instruments: Maintains up-to-date policies and procedures for sterile processing based on best practices and professional organization standards. Identifies and organizes the instrument and staff needs for new service lines and surgeons. Implements new instruments and sets, count sheets, preference cards, etc. Ensures proper instruments and equipment are ready for use in a timely manner. Ensures sterile processing area is appropriately stocked and inventoried with necessary items for processing. Performs hand washing according to policies and procedures. Anticipates surgeon's staff needs to assure interruptions in surgery schedule. Cleans and disinfects all tables, counter surfaces, stands and floor in area as scheduled as needed. Instrument Sterile Processing: Selecting and assembling instruments into specific sets as appropriate or as designated by specific instrument preference lists. Identifies all sets, instruments and equipment with proper labeling of each. Processing instruments, which includes but not limited to: cleaning, decontamination, maintaining, handling, storing, and/or sterilizing surgical instruments and power equipment. Ensures proper documentation of all instrument processing (i.e., biologicals, DART tests, implant biologicals, etc.) as required by regulatory and accreditation agencies. Knowledge of autoclaves and Steris machines, their proper function and appropriate use. Proficient in all aspects of sterile processing. Maintains safe work environment (handling sharps, needles, blades, etc.) and practices by following Standard Precautions. Maintains integrity of instruments. Maintenance: Schedules preventative maintenance on equipment and instruments. Maintains IFUs and Manufacturer Guidelines for all sterile processing equipment and instruments. Current on sterile processing guidelines (ANSI) and ensures that all policies and procedures reflect these guidelines. Maintains a record of all instruments out for repair and date of return. Maintains a record of borrowed instruments and assures their return in a timely manner. Communicates to staff status of instruments out for repair. Current IAHCSMM or CBSPD certification. Within six (6) months from hire : (Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)) Basic computer skills required. 3 years of knowledge and skills in sterile processing required. Associate Degree preferred. 2 years leadership or equivalent experience preferred. Knowledge of instrumentation function and maintenance preferred. Mandatory Annual Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Confidentiality-HIPAA, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance. Annual Unit Specific Competencies, and all education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.
