POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Emergency Management and Business Continuity is responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of emergency preparedness and continuity of operations activities at UT Southwestern. This includes developing and maintaining all necessary plans, training, and exercises. The Director works closely with departments across the campus to prepare for and respond to any disaster or disruption of services. In addition, the Director works with other local healthcare organizations, regulatory agencies, and the community to prepare for and respond to disasters. The position has three direct reports and is part of a larger departmental team within the Office of Safety and Business Continuity.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
REQUIRED
· Bachelor’s degree in related field.
· Nine (9) years progressively responsible, related experience.
· Three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
PREFERRED
Previous hospital related experience preferred.
JOB DUTIES
· Development and implementation of campus-wide emergency and continuity plans, policies, and protocols inclusive of hospital and ambulatory operations. Train and exercise campus leadership and departments on continuity of operations and emergency plans.
· Direct continuity planning efforts throughout the campus, which includes establishing plans in each department at UTSW. Ensure departmental plans integrate with the overarching continuity of operations campus plan. Oversee and support a continuity software system to provide mechanism to document, access, and evaluate plans.
· Lead oversight of the campus emergency mass notification system, UTSW Alert. Implement strategic use of the communication system and expand use of the notification system to integrate communications across campus.
· Design, develop, administer, and provide training and exercises for the campus Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The EOC is used when major events interrupt daily operations in either an isolated area (unit/department) or a building or throughout the campus.
· Respond to emergencies affecting UT Southwestern, both major and minor incidents. This includes both planned and unexpected events, where operations are interrupted at a significant level.
· Research and react to changing regulatory requirements for the University Hospital emergency management program. Lead the creation and maintenance of the hazard vulnerability analysis (HVA) which determines concentrations in planning, training, and evaluating performance of emergency responders and affected areas.
· Strategic direction of the emergency management program including effective reporting and tracking of key measures.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is performed primarily in general office environment.
