Klaviyo Inc.
Full Stack Data Scientist II
Klaviyo Inc., Boston, Massachusetts, us, 02298
Klaviyo operates a real-time data analytics platform coded primarily in Python that is built for massive scale and hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Data Scientists come to Klaviyo with experience in a variety of quantitative methods and from a number of disciplines.
The Intelligence Research team is a data science team that consults for and embeds on customer-facing product teams, across experimentation, optimization, predictive analytics, anomaly detection, product recommendations, and reporting. We work with these teams to develop new products and models and incubate high-risk high-reward ML/AI ideas. We stay ahead of the curve and build the technical foundation for our fast-moving product teams. We serve as statistics and machine learning experts and take rigor in our statistical methods and model explainability seriously. Our work is very collaborative within the engineering and product organization, identifying product opportunities and needs where data science techniques are the best solution.
As a Data Scientist on the Intelligence Research Team, you can expect to embed on product teams, learn the ins and outs of their product and problems, and develop data science solutions that are right for the job – potentially including causal inference, predictive machine learning, LLM applications, contextual or multi-armed bandits/RL, probabilistic modeling, experimental design and analysis, and anything else! You’ll become an expert in fields you had never heard of and share your knowledge with the rest of the organization. You will receive mentorship from a core team of data scientists while developing the skills needed to tackle highly varied quantitative problems.
You will work alongside software engineers, product managers and designers to deliver an intuitive and robust experimentation suite for Klaivyo's users. You'll have ownership of projects that contribute to the team's mission, goals, and roadmap while collaborating alongside technical product owners and product managers. Your tech stack will include Python, Scipy, PySpark, Ray, AWS, PyTorch, CausalML, and others you identify – we expect this data scientist to actively evolve our tech stack.
How You Will Make A Difference
Be data science expert consulting for and embedding on full stack engineering teams
Build user-facing algorithms that work for large and small data sets - audience sizes on Klaviyo span approximately seven orders of magnitude!
Design experiments and metrics proving your solutions’ efficacy
Work cross functionally with product, design, and engineering
Have ample opportunities for growth
What we’re looking for:
Strong statistical fundamentals with a passion for experimental design and presentation of data
1+ years experience working in a data science or other applied quantitative field
Proficient in SQL and at least one modern programming language
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, applied math, statistics or other relevant quantitative discipline, or equivalent industry experience
Able to communicate well, work with others, learn continuously, and excited by difficult problems
Able to think critically about about problems and weigh the engineering and customer impacts of modeling decisions
Able and excited to pick up new concepts quickly – technical and non-technical
Nice to have:
Experience working with bandit algorithms or causal inference
Experience querying large datasets or data warehouses using Spark or similar technologies
Experience working with complex production codebases
Experience working in Python or writing production quality code
