Responsibilities
The Office of Space Weather Observations (SWO) under NESDIS is responsible for advancing space weather observational capabilities to meet NOAA programmatic needs. NOAA's Space Weather Next (SWX) program maintains and extends space weather observations from various vantage points, selected to most efficiently provide comprehensive knowledge of the Sun and the near-Earth space environment needed to protect our technological infrastructure.
The Space Weather Ground Services (SWGS) is responsible for comprehensive ground services for all SWX projects, ensuring successful implementation and operation of observing assets and ensuring the continuity of space weather measurements made by SWFO-L1 and the GOES-R series satellites.
The SWGS Mission Operations Services (MOS) program must provide a full mission satellite command and control solution to support the L1 Series with two new independently launched observatories.
Peraton is seeking to hire a Lead Systems Engineer to join this new SWGS-MOS program.
Design, develop, evaluate, and modify end-to-end systems and systems-oriented products through their entire life cycle. Generate quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics. Ensure requirements comply with customer requirements and government standards through formal verification methods. Translate high level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and work with other engineering disciplines to develop lower-level detailed implementation requirements. Establish and coordinate development of standards, practices, and procedures as related to the overall product development. Design interfaces and integrate system components. Assess performance using evaluation criteria and technical performance measures. Validate, decompose, clarify, and shape requirements. Participate in system conceptual design and documentation of the design concepts. Participate in design reviews of components (hardware and software) to ensure applicability to the current system and traceability of requirements through compliance verification and validation. Generate system level requirements verification procedures and customer acceptance test procedures. Review test plans/procedures and ensure they meet the objectives of the contractual requirements and participate in the testing process to validate requirements.
This position is contingent on contract award.
Other responsibilities include: Serve as a key contributor on the program team Consult with management, customers, and external contractors regarding the project schedule, resources, plans, designs, and implementations Oversee technical design, development, and implementation of system services Establish standards for system design and development Ensure system performance goals are met and the integrity of design is maintained Coordinate the identification, reporting and resolution of system anomalies/discrepancies Validate allocated requirements to assure system architecture, design and implementation satisfies requirements Evaluate emerging technologies for potential application Interact with customers regarding strategies, requirements, problem solving, and support Work with other contractor teams to ensure interfaces and performances are met Contribute to technical risk/opportunity identification and lessons learned
Qualifications Active Public Trust clearance 16 or more years of experience directly related to System Engineering for Satellite Ground Systems, including requirements decomposition and analysis, model-based engineering, virtualization, Service Architectures, and cloud-based services Strong knowledge of Satellite Ground Systems including mission planning, command, control and communications, data processing, space to ground interfaces, network topologies, cyber security, and Satellite Operation facilities In-depth knowledge of data structures and ability to analyze data to solve problems Familiar with agile scrum framework
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with VMware or virtualization technologies Knowledge of cloud-based services Experience with Microsoft Windows and various Linux OSs Experience in software or systems testing Experience writing specifications and conducting trades Experience with DOORS requirements management. Experience with configuration and change management processes and tools (e.g. Atlassian JIRA) - Experience with CMMI Level 3 processes

Target Salary Range
