The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford (UICOMR) seeks an experienced and motivated physician to develop and direct a new Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program in affiliation with the UICOMR Family Medicine Residency Program. The Director is responsible for completing the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) application process in collaboration with the Graduate Medical Education Office with the goal of obtaining accreditation. As UICOMR faculty, the Director also works closely with residency program faculty and staff to coordinate and instruct our residents and medical students in the specialty of addiction medicine.
The University of Illinois, College of Medicine, is a national leader in medical education. The Rockford regional campus was founded in 1971 to address the healthcare needs of the people of Illinois and has trained over 2,000 physicians. The Addiction Medicine Fellowship will be a collaboration between UICOMR, Rosecrance Health Network and UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital. A 323-bed tertiary care hospital with a 24-bed ICU and 75,000 + emergency department visits per year, UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital provides a rich inpatient experience for the trainees. The UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital emergency department is the second busiest in the state, serving Winnebago County which has the highest rates of opioid-related ED visits and hospitalizations in the state per county adult population. Rosecrance is a private, not-for-profit organization offering comprehensive, nationally accredited, evidence-based addiction treatment and mental health services, serving northern and central Illinois, Chicago, Wisconsin, and Iowa. The expertise provided through these partnerships will contribute to a strong Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program well positioned for growth, community support, and research.
Minimum qualifications include MD/DO or its foreign equivalent. Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency training program, board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Medicine-Pediatrics and board certification/board eligibility in Addiction Medicine. Unrestricted Illinois license to practice medicine in Illinois or Illinois license eligible. Experience in addiction medicine, including experience in an academic setting or fellowship program. Knowledge of addiction medicine fellowship program regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Strong organizational and leadership skills, including managing multiple projects and priorities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with fellows, residents, faculty, staff, and community partners. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
