As a senior person in the Accounting and Finance Team, the Assistant Controller - Materials Division is a critical position that requires an accountant with a significant amount of operational experience. The candidate must have demonstrated the talent, ambition and commitment to expand their capabilities, and to learn what makes our company tick. The Asst. Controller must have an absolute passion for excellence, combined with strong written and oral communication skills, experience with a variety of technical platforms, excellent analytical capabilities, and the ability to provide leadership and development to team members with diverse backgrounds. This position is exempt, and reports to the Corporate Controller.

What you will doLead and coordinate Accounts Payable, Billing, Cost Accounting, and General Accounting operations for the divisionPlan, direct and coordinate operational accounting and finance functions for the divisionOversee all daily activities to ensure timely and accurate performance; recommend and implement best practices to improve efficiency and accuracyDevelop and implement accounting procedures to comply with GAAP and audit standardsSupervise divisional general ledger entries and account reconciliations to ensure timely and accurate closing cycles •Prepare standalone financial statements in conformance with US GAAPCoordinate external audit activitiesEvaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and operating procedures; recommend changes as required to ensure the integrity of financial reporting systemsLead and develop direct and indirect reports, providing continual performance feedbackHire, train and retain skilled accounting staffBe an integral member of the General Accounting Team, share your ideas and thoughts, and help to drive a culture of proactive problem solving and self-directed continuous improvementInteract with Vice President of Construction and other managers to assure their needs are being met

BS in Accounting required, MBA/MSA preferredCPA, CMA, CFM or similar designation strongly preferredHigh level of integrity, and the ability to project an image of trust and reliabilityMinimum of 8 years of professional experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership position working for a large middle-market company with multiple divisionsDemonstrated experience in financial close and financial statement preparationSolid experience with cost accounting in a manufacturing and/or construction environmentDemonstrated ability to lead a team of accounting professionals (preference for a team of 3 or more)An absolute passion for continuous improvement, an innate sense of professional curiosity and skepticismProactive nature, with a sense of urgency to handle a variety of tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environmentTechnical/analytical focus to be able to identify trends, discover causes of variances, and identify improvement opportunitiesConfident and proactive, and the ability to make rapid decisions in the absence of data, and to communicate decisions and changes quickly and effectivelyAdvanced skills with standard office software (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook)Ability to analyze and follow detailed procedures, establish new procedures as neededThe ability to learn from and teach others, and the desire to gain a full understanding of the industry
