Hit Apply below to send your application for consideration Ensure that your CV is up to date, and that you have read the job specs first.About the roleReporting to the Executive Director of Prospect Development, the Assistant Director of Prospect Research is a member of a team responsible for identifying and evaluating prospective donors (particularly corporate and foundation donors) for their interests, relationships, inclination, and philanthropic capacity to inform and support the UMAF’s fundraising strategies and outreach efforts. Partnering with Prospect Management, the Assistant Director of Prospect Research will focus on supporting the Corporate Relations and Foundation Relations teams, as well as other UMAF colleagues.Location : This is a full-time hybrid position and is open to employees in select US states: Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
What you'll doIdentify prospective donors, focusing on corporate and foundation donors, to the UMAF through various research methods, including online resources, screenings, alerts, relationship mapping, and prospecting lists (i.e. regional-, company-, and/or initiative-based), among others.Enter, update, and maintain accurate and up-to-date biographical, professional, and financial information on corporate and foundation donors in the Advance donor database.Prepare and update corporate and foundation prospect materials for UMAF colleagues, particularly the corporate and foundation teams, as well as senior leadership.Research and make recommendations on corporate and foundation prospects’ giving levels, interests, and/or likelihood.Establish a strong partnership and open communication with corporate and foundation fundraisers, as well as other UMAF colleagues.Obtain and analyze information on major corporate and foundation prospects to assess donor giving potential to UMAF colleagues to use for the creation of targeted fundraising and cultivation strategies.Contribute to the improvement of processes and procedures for prospect research and prospect development, as well as evaluations of prospect research tools and subscriptions, particularly those use for corporate and foundation research.Manage and oversee the work of a prospect research analyst.Support prospect research’s work with individual major-level and principal-level donors, as needed.Assist with training and work oversight of student workers, as needed.Participate in and assist with CRM migration-related work as a subject matter expert in PR.Other Duties as Assigned (10%)
UMAF is building and growing, and this position will support those efforts with other duties and projects as assigned from time to time.QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience in prospect research, prospect management, and/or prospect development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Strong analytical skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills.Experience with managing/supervising another person’s work.Experience with prospect research tools and resources, as such LexisNexis, iWave, Aidentified, Relationship Science, IRS 990s, and SEC filings, particularly with corporate and foundation relations research tools such as Candid (Foundation Directory Online and GuideStar).Experience with relationship management databases.Experience with Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Passion for the UMAF’s mission in supporting and uplifting UMass Amherst students and faculty and the greater campus community.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in direct corporate and foundation prospect research role.Experience working in a large university.Experience with the Ellucians Advance database.
