Overview:The Mother-Baby Unit is a 50-bed unit, all privates located on the 5th floor of Mercy Hospital. The Mother-Baby unit serves mothers and their stable newborns, late preterm to term using a specially trained health-care team, as well as stable antepartum patients needing short to long term hospitalization. The major admitting diagnosis' include postpartum mothers experiencing vaginal deliveries and postoperative cesarean sections and their newborns, as well as pregnancy diagnoses' such as PIH, PROM, Gestational diabetes, and Placenta Previa. The service is provided 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The Mother-Baby Unit is a specialized area of expertise that require astute assessment skills, development of critical thinking while understanding the implications of growth and development on physiologic and patho-physiologic process. All staff work 12-hour shifts, 0630 to 1900 and 1830 to 0700, which includes alternating weekend shifts and holiday shifts.

Qualifications:Education:

Graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing programLicensure:

Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.Physical requirements/demands :Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basisPosition requires prolonged standing and walking each shiftPosition requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform dutiesExperience:Certifications:Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.Mercy has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
