- Confers with Manager, Assistant Director and the Clinical Director where appropriate, regarding laboratory operation and the development, implementation, review and update of written policies, procedures, and protocols to provide for optimum functioning of the lab.
- Directs, supervises and coordinates the technical functions and activities in the laboratory, including, selection, installation, maintenance, quality control and training for highly sophisticated instrumentation and laboratory equipment; use of chemicals and related supplies used in the testing process.
- Supervises laboratory personnel within the assigned lab who conduct routine and/or specialized tests and analyses of blood, body fluid or human tissue specimens ensuring maximum productivity and effectiveness.
- Coordinates communication between laboratory personnel and medical and nursing staff to relate operational procedures, mediate differences and to resolve problems.
- Maintains inventory of all consumable items, and prepares monthly supply orders to ensure adequate amount of reagents and supplies are available when needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology, Microbiology or Chemistry, or equivalent is required. Advanced course work/education in the particular area of specialization is required.
- Five years progressively responsible experience as a Medical Technologist within the specific laboratory unit, performing laboratory testing and evaluation duties, or equivalent, is required. In addition, a minimum of one-year lead worker responsibility, overseeing the work of Medical Technologists and laboratory support personnel is required.
