The Legal Aid Society has an opening for an Arraignment Supervising Attorney. The arraignment supervisor maintains front line responsibility for the office's provision of client services in the Criminal Court Night arraignment part. The supervisor will provide supervision at Queens Criminal Court on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM or whenever the shift is completed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and distribute CDP arraignment case attorney intake
  • Monitor and distribute conflict cases to other providers
  • Assist attorneys in addressing substantive issues of cases to be arraigned, including trouble shooting over 24-hour arrest to arraignment time cases and unusual volume of online arrest cases to be arraigned
  • Attend regularly scheduled stakeholder meetings with external agencies
  • Monitor physical conditions of both courtrooms and holding areas
  • Prepare daily arraignment reports

TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of five years as a criminal defense attorney
  • Felony certified for a minimum of three years prior to applying
  • Comprehensive knowledge of criminal and constitutional law, statutory interpretation, and ethical principles contained in the Code of Professional Responsibility
  • Ability to collaborate with external stakeholders
  • Superior oral and written advocacy skills and organizational skills

SALARY TRANSPARENCY

The posting reflects the range of potential salaries for the role. The specific salary offers will be dependent on candidate qualifications, including collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles.

Salary Range/ Salary: $99,444 to $163,507
