Division Chief, Cardiac Surgery
Worcester, MA
The Department of Surgery at UMass Memorial Health and the UMass Memorial Medical Group seeks a Division Chief of Cardiac Surgery to lead and grow our established program that services the entirety of Central Massachusetts. You will be a critical member of the Department's leadership team helping to strategize, execute and operationalize policies within quality improvement, academics, research, and clinical excellence.
As the Division Chief of Cardiac Surgery, you are charged with continuing the Division's commitment to building quality clinical programs that provide our patients with outstanding, state of the art surgical care. You will report to our Department Chair to insure continued alignment with the mission of the Department of Surgery and the Medical Group.
About Cardiac Surgery:
- We currently perform ~450 open cases with a catchment area that can support continued growth with a successful leader
- We currently operate an extremely busy catheterization lab with close to 9000 procedures annually
- We currently have a robust VAD and heart failure program which includes pre- and post-operative care with transplants currently being performed at a Boston partner
- We work closely with the Divisions of Cardiology and Vascular Surgery within our unified Heart and Vascular Center of Excellence which allows us to work synergistically between specialties, offer advanced programs for our patients and drive quality patient care
- We have a large patient base with established and robust mechanical circulatory device programs to include VV/VA ECMO, Heart Failure and VAD
Leadership Requirements:
- Our ideal chief candidate displays a high EQ to successfully navigate a growing, stratified system to include people management, community partnerships, network development and internal relationship building
- Our ideal chief has demonstrated leadership experience in the form of a Director, and/or similarly titled designation in which they have successfully managed other clinical caregivers
- Our ideal chief has worked within academic medicine and is supportive of championing the academic mission to include medical education, resident education and clinical/ scientific research
- Our ideal chief enjoys developing busy clinical programs to support our large and expanding group of cardiologists both within our system and our community
