About the job Tax Partner - Laguna Beach, CAThe CompanyHaving formed the Company in 2020 with two employees, this client has grown to over 40 employees within two years through 3 locations: Hermosa Beach, Newport Beach, and Laguna Beach, California, each office having its specialties. Total revenue is about $10,000,000 from clients, including Individuals, Corporations, Partnerships, Trusts, Bookkeeping, Payroll, Employee Retention Credit, and Research and Development.
Recently, the client acquired one of the largest accounting firms in the Beach Cities area with a 42-year local presence specializing in Trust and Estate work. They are seeking a Partner to help maintain and grow their Trust and Estate Services. The successful candidate will become a member of the senior management team and will work closely with other Partners on decisions about the future of the Company.The RoleThe successful candidate will have a modern understanding of the professional standards, technology, and data security necessary to lead the tax team and work with other tax Partners to ensure the timely delivery of excellent tax compliance and complex work product. They will have well-developed team management and mentoring skills. The firm has a People First ethic which applies equally to clients and staff. This role offers a quick path to Equity Partner.Core ResponsibilitiesResponsible for at least two hundred complicated accounts, including individuals, C-Corp, S-Corp, Partnerships, Fiduciary, Exempt Organizations, and Estates.Preparation of tax projections, complicated financial statements, and other tax planning strategies.Conduct a secondary review of, and have ultimate responsibility for, complex income tax returns, including federal and multi-state filings.Interact closely with clients to provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise.Maintain, develop, and expand client relationships.Essential Functions
Work closely with Partners and staff on client management, practice development, and business development activities.Mentor and coach staff members effectively to improve their job skills.Stay current on the latest tax laws.Plan, execute, and direct complicated tax projects.Maintain active communication with clients to ensure satisfaction and that deadlines are met.Manage, develop, train, and mentor staff on tax projects and assess performance for engagement reviews.Address advanced technical tax matter questions from team members and upper-level client management.Education and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.An advanced degree in taxation is preferred.California Licensed CPA, or
The ability to become licensed in California within six months of joining the firm.
Experience
8+ years of experience in a similar tax role.Must have strong trust and estate and 1040 experience.Experience in managing a team of licensed professionals is preferred.Experience in managing staff members is preferred.Experience in tax controversy, audit, and rulings is strongly preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesHighly developed problem-solving, research, and analytical skills.Expert knowledge of applicable tax software.Good organizational and time management skills.Ability to multitask.Excellent communication skills.Knowledge of income tax returns in the following areas:
Individuals, partnerships, S Corporations, C Corporations.Nonprofits and foundations, complex real estate transactions.Trust and Estate accounting, foreign tax matters.Mergers & acquisitions.
