Grants Accountant - General Accounting

The Grants Accountant is responsible for all accounting cycle tasks - AR/AP/Payroll and financial reporting - and pre- and post-award grant accounting. He or she will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with funders' administrative guidelines, timely receipt of revenue, accurate submission of financial reports, UG Audit, and orderly closure of projects.

The ideal candidate would have experience working with smaller organizations, and at a minimum, have some grant, government contracting, or other project accounting experience. He or she should also understand internal controls and be able to ensure compliance with all controls and accounting policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accounts payable/bill managementPrepare all payment requests to vendorsManage all accounts payable and properly code to grants or programs.Manage vendor relations and prepare monthly expenditure report to the Manager.Cash and cash receipts

Post daily cash receipts, including merchant account transactions and physical checks.Maintain and update a monthly cash flow report for management.Payroll

Maintain and payroll for all staff that are grant funded ( ADP currently used).Monthly Accruals and Journal Entries

Maintain and post salary to grant cost center.Track and update monthly accruals.Maintain and post other month end journals and accrualsGrant Finance

Prepare and submit grant invoices.Provide basic financial oversight for funds related to grant projects. Monitor/track the status of each program through its program life cycle.Work with grant managers and advise management team on preparing grant budgets for proposals. Once awarded, monitor expenses for allowable uses of grant funds.Prepare budget-to-actual grant spending reports.Reporting

Prepare monthly report packages.Develop budget and budget narratives.Audit

Act as point of contact for annual audits.Prepare year-end schedules and other data requested by auditors.Computer and Technology Skills

Strong systems and technical experience is required.Qualifications

Five or more years of accounting experience, with a minimum of two years in a nonprofit or government setting, with nonprofit and grant experience preferred.B.A. degree or equivalent work experience.Proficient with Microsoft Excel and the ability to reconcile large transactional files (pivot tables and vlookup experience preferred).Join a healthcare system where employee engagement is at an all-time high. Please note that all roles require on-site presence (variable by role). Therefore, all employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.

Salary Range:

$63,000-$81,000/Annual
