Salary: $180,000 - $210,000 + benefits (Subject to experience, could fall outside range)


JLSa2 Therapeutics is a new and recently launched seed-stage venture backed company, located in South San Francisco, focused upon developing novel multifunctional protein-drug conjugate therapies to address human metabolic diseases and other non-oncology related diseases. The company is seeking a Director to lead the discovery biology group to coordinate the in vitro and in vivo characterization of the multifunctional conjugates as well as contribute to multiple aspects of product development as molecules progress from research stage into early clinical development. Responsibilities: The candidate will lead a group responsible for functional screening assays of research candidates using ELISA, cell based bioassays, and other kinetic-based binding assays (eg:Octet or Gator), and also supervise external in vivo PK and efficacy studies. The candidate will work in a highly collaborative team with the conjugation and biophysical analytical teams, as well as senior leadership, to ensure data integration across functional areas to ensure rapid decision making and product iteration cycle time. This position will supervise junior scientists on site as well as external CRO’s and is expected to be on site at our SSF facility. Qualifications: PhD in pharmacology, cell biology, or related scientific field and 10 years of industry experience in the discovery, characterization, and development of biologic conjugates or peptides is required Requires a strong background in biologic functional assays like ELISA, cell-based reporter and second messenger assays, bioanalytical PK/PD, in vivo rodent efficacy models. Experience in IND-enabling preclinical study design in both rodent and primate is preferred. Peptide pharmacology experience is highly preferred, developing bioassays suitable to a QC environment is also desirable. Demonstrated proficiency in both hands-on lab work, the ability to manage activities and solve challenges, and extensive experience reviewing, organizing, and presenting data. Prior experience with bioconjugates and peptide SAR is desirable. Demonstrated leadership ability, including a commitment to mentorship and development of personnel. Flexibility to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced start up environment is essential. Good communication skills are essential.
