Description
GAP is the longest established gastroenterology practice in the Piedmont Triad area. This independent, physician-owned GI practice is looking for RNs for our GI Clinics. GAP evaluates new patients, performs consultations and conducts follow-up visits for chronic gastrointestinal conditions. Our offices draw and assess labs, administer injections and monitor medication therapies. We offer on-site infusion services and our clinical staff assist with a variety of in-office procedures. When appropriate, GAP schedules appointments for outpatient screening, diagnostic and/or treatment procedures. Our endoscopy centers are physician-owned outpatient ambulatory surgical centers which specialize in colon cancer screening and prevention as well as a number of other procedures including endoscopy, Interstim Bowel Control Therapy and Orbera gastric balloon weight loss therapy.

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for rendering nursing care in assigned area in terms of individualized patient needs, according to dependent and independent nursing functions and conformance with recognized nursing techniques, procedures, and established standards based on the scope of nursing, under the direction of the nurse manager or physician. Works cooperatively with Clinic Nurse Manager, physicians and other staff members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Requirements
Registered Nurse, currently licensed in North Carolina. Previous experience with Epic preferred. Current BLS training required. Minimum of one (1) year experience in medical specialty practice preferred. Bilingual skill a plus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Obtains, verifies and records health history of patients.
- Gathers pertinent health data through physical assessments and biological samples.
- Collects specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Provides basic patient care as ordered. Administers medications and treatments as directed
- Captures and records date of last colonoscopy or lack of.
- Documents assessments, interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, and test results in medical records.
- Documents care provided or procedures performed accurately on patient records.
- Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
- Assists other health care professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures, and treatments, and minor medical procedures.
- Performs all nursing functions, demonstrates the ability to make sound nursing decisions, exercising good judgment in usual, unusual and emergency situations.
- Reviews patient records for completeness and accuracy and to assure proper identification and current medications.
- Prepares patient for office procedures.
- Collects specimens for laboratory analysis. Ensures that correct labeling for all laboratory and pathology specimens is performed.
- Assists the physician with office procedures, closely anticipating his/her needs.
- Communicates effectively and respectfully with coworkers, patients and providers.
- Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
Requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies, and functions. Understanding of documentation standards.
- Knowledge of organizational polices, regulations, standing orders, and procedures to administer patient care.
- Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for medical treatment. Understanding of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening.
- Knowledge of medications and their effects on patients.
- Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
