POSITION: Certified Non-CDL Driver

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, Level: 5 Starting at $16.02. 9-month Work Calendar

REPORT TO: Director of Transportation

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary function of a Registered Non-CDL Bus Driver is to safely and competently operate a school bus for the purpose of transporting students to and from school and school sponsored activities on a daily basis.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: (essential functions)
  • See that all children arrive at school and are returned safely and promptly by only stopping at designated stops. Ensure students are only dropped off from the school bus at their regular designated (or parent requested) stop or at school.
  • Maintaining excellent attendance and punctuality are a must, which means arriving and checking in prior to the scheduled departure times, leaving at the appointed time to arrive at each stop as scheduled.
  • Transport only authorized children and adult sponsors to and from school sponsored events.
  • Appoint assigned seats to students to ensure knowledge of who is on board the bus at all times.
  • Acknowledge students by name and address them cordially as they board and depart from the bus.
  • Treat all children in a civil manner, ensuring that no child is imposed upon or mistreated.
  • Instruct students on bus safety rules and enforce transportation student discipline procedures as necessary when rules are not being followed.
  • Attend periodic meetings as scheduled.
  • Keep the bus clean, both inside and outside. The bus should be thoroughly cleaned at the end of each school year. Maintenance mechanic should be informed of needed repairs and any developing mechanical problems.
  • Carry out all other duties as directed.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Knowledge of general safety rules and techniques.
  • Knowledge of First Aid and CPR.
  • Knowledge of district rules of conduct.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal policies and laws relative to pupil transportation.
  • Knowledge of the principles of transportation of special needs students.
  • Skill in performing First Aid and CPR.
  • Skill in assisting students in wheelchairs or with other physical limitations.
  • Skill in monitoring and correcting student behavior.
  • Skill in communicating orally and in writing.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to perform the following physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation: critical sensory requirements include general vision, corrected to 20/20, hear or listen in the normal range (corrected) and speak and give directions clearly. Able to walk, sit, stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, lift (exerting force up to 50 pounds), carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 125 lbs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. No experience required but must receive training to develop necessary driving skills. Employee should demonstrate adequate skills in driving a school bus and have knowledge of traffic laws.

Bilingual preferred.

REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must hold a minimum of an Operator's Driver's License and an Arizona 925 Driver's Certification. C.P.R. and First Aid Certification.. Arizona IVP Fingerprint Card, Mandated District behind-the-wheel and classroom training.
