Position Summary
Work under the supervision of licensed dentist. Provide quality dental care and associated services to patients using established dental hygiene procedures.
Description of Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for customer service
- Provide necessary customer and support services to patients of Palms Medical Group within his/her field of training in accordance with stated policies and procedures of PMG.
- Document phones calls in EDR.
- Know all PMG departments and services.
- Responsible for patient care
- Provide necessary dental services to patients of Palms Medical Group within his/her scope of practice in accordance with stated policies, procedures and protocols of PMG.
- Identify him/herself as a dental hygienist and wear identification badge at all times.
- Exhibit professionalism when greeting, seating and draping patients in the dental clinic.
- Prepare patient for dental hygiene treatment by reviewing the patient's health history, dental chart, oral history and dental radiographs.
- Complete prophylaxis by removing calculus, plaque and stains from all surfaces of the teeth and from beneath gingival margins.
- Feel and visually examine gums for sores and signs of disease.
- Feel for lymph nodes under patient's chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer.
- Apply fluorides or other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay.
- Take radiological pictures of patient's teeth and mouth.
- Chart conditions of oral decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by the dentist.
- Responsible for inventory management
- Inventory and submit all order requests to the VP of Business Continuity.
- Maintain dental equipment by sharpening and sterilizing dental instruments.
- Clean, organize and maintain professional work areas.
- Responsible for patient education
- Educate patients by giving oral hygiene and plaque control instructions (e.g. tooth brushing, flossing, tobacco and nutritional counseling).
- Provide patient with an appointment reminder for the next scheduled visit.
- Provide clinical services or dental education to improve/maintain the oral health of patients or the general public.
- Responsible for administrative duties
- Read and adhere to the Dental Policy Manual and HIPAA Policy Manual
- Consistently participate in and actively adhere to patient care expectations to attain clinical goals set forth in the PMG QA/QI Plan.
- Assist with audits and surveys as directed.
- Perform any other duty assigned to improve the efficiency of PMG.

- Employee will be expected to navigate and operate Microsoft Office suite products, including Word and Excel.
- Associate of Science degree in Dental Hygiene.
- Current Dental Hygiene license issued by the State of Florida.
- Current BLS (basic life support) Certification.
- Effectively communicates complex and/or technical information to co-workers, patients and/or vendors.
