The Director leads policy and standard operating procedure development and is responsible for training of research staff to ensure adherence to regulatory, protocol, and funder requirements. The Director also maintains a nuanced understanding of the goals and timelines of all trials, monitors and reports progress to the PI, and continuously takes action to ensure adherence to timeline and budget. The Director must have broad knowledge of clinical research workflows and research tools used to administer and report on the status and outcomes of clinical trials to leverage in the aforementioned endeavors. The Director also serves as a technical expert and lead for data collection and management to advise all clinical trial teams in their respective structures and ensure consistently high quality output. They may consult on feasibility of new study opportunities and partnerships. This position coordinates hiring processes for all clinical research staff (e.g., research coordinators, research technicians) in partnership with departmental staff and with the PI, and routinely evaluates staff performance for continuous quality improvement and to initiate disciplinary action when necessary.
This position requires the ability to interact and develop strong positive working relationships with a diverse group of professionals at all levels within the research team, organization, and outside community. The Director routinely interacts with diverse clinical research stakeholders, including clinical trial sponsors and their representatives, institutional investigators, research staff, clinical personnel, auditors, senior institutional leadership, and regulatory oversight agencies. The position exercises wide latitude and decision-making authority to conduct and oversee complex work critical to organization objectives. Outstanding organizational skills are essential. Willingness to occasionally undertake work-related domestic travel is a requirement of the position.Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in health, business or related field plus ten (10) years of clinical program research, project, or coordinator experience to include at least four (4) years of supervisory experience.

Administrative Leadership:
Manages the day-to-day operations of HEALS' clinical research team and practice services in accordance with the goals, objectives, budget, and timeline established by senior leadership.
Promotes and models a positive multidisciplinary collaboration and interaction with volunteers, colleagues, and management team.
Uses effective time management and delegation skills to maintain appropriate staffing patterns and adjusts appropriately to meet needs of research and project goals and responsibilities.
Monitors workloads and adherence to deadlines.
Prepares and shares progress reports.
Promotes excellent researcher- and community partner-friendly service. Has broad authority to make decisions in areas specific to the conduct of clinical trials, with general direction from the PI.
Ensures strict adherence to all governing policies, protocols, and contractual agreements related to the conduct, regulatory compliance, data management and collection, and other duties directly related to HEALS-supported research.
Develops standard operating procedures and trains staff to ensure consistency and quality of work performed.
Facilitates effective communication and interaction among staff, researchers, and senior leaders of other groups including the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Office of Research Regulatory Affairs, Office of Research Compliance, Institutional Review Board, and individual UAMS Departments.
Recommends and leads continual process improvement activities.
Organizes and attends meetings as relevant and appropriate.
Fills in where needed and/or develops plans of coverage in times of short staffing.
Supervisory Oversight:
Manages staff responsible for the conduct, coordination, oversight, and reporting of HEALS-supported clinical research.
Performs annual evaluations and conducts any disciplinary action according to UAMS policy.
Hires, trains, and coordinates research staff schedules.
Implements good managerial judgment by conducting all aspects of supervision in a fair, consistent, objective, and professional manner.
Ensures each employee has knowledge of and complies with UAMS policies, has completed all necessary regulatory and research requirements fulfilling the standards of licensing and accrediting agencies and maintains appropriate records.
Performs other related responsibilities as required and as requested by the PI.
Develops and/or maintains professional knowledge and skills by participating in continuing educational activities and professional organizations.
Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary.
Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments.
Assists internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service.
