About the Opportunity

We are seeking a passionate and skilled

User Experience Specialist

to join our team. As a User Experience Specialist, you will play a crucial role. The position will make sure digital content is usable, accessible, engaging, and user-friendly. They will ensure that media-rich websites and interactive applications meet the needs of the audience they serve and advance the mission of the Lab. This position is responsible for thinking holistically about the user experience across multiple digital properties that the team is responsible for. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic environment surrounded by experts in ornithology.

What We Need

Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of experience in user experience design or web design or equivalent combination.Thorough knowledge of Photoshop, Figma, and other UI design tools.Experience with latest CSS, SASS, git, and other development tools.Thorough understanding of user experience design and usability research techniques.Experience with researching and effectively serving target audiences.Experience interview end users, domain experts, and clients to gather information for applications and/or site architecture and user interface design.Knowledge of web accessibility standards and have experience meeting those accessibility requirements.Experience developing and working within content management systems, preferably WordPress.Experience designing and planning user-friendly user journeys, site architecture/navigation, and user interfaces.Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to convey technical information in a way that nontechnical staff can understand.Demonstrable skills in problem solving and critical thinking.Preferably, the successful candidate will also have the following :

Well-developed illustration and artistic skills and understanding of various types of optimization in various format such as multimedia, web, app, and printExperience designing and developing web accessible data visualization for non-profit or science communications.Knowledge of birds, nature, and bird watching.If you are passionate about birds, conservation, and scientific discovery, we encourage you to apply!

This position is located at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in Ithaca, NY. This position can be hybrid remote work. The specifics of this arrangement will be reviewed with you when you begin the position, and the University must approve of the desired remote work location.
