The Minnesota Timberwolves are seeking a UI/UX Engineer to lead the design and development of user interfaces and experiences for internal basketball analytics tools. This role focuses on creating intuitive, visually compelling, and highly functional products that help analysts, coaches, and team management interact with complex basketball data The ideal candidate will balance UI design with front-end engineering, ensuring that data insights are presented in the most engaging and accessible way. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform these essential functions: Design, prototype, and implement engaging user interfaces for dashboards, applications, reports and data visualization tools used by the basketball operations team. Work closely with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to transform complex datasets and statistical models into intuitive, actionable visualizations. Design user interfaces for interactive tools that leverage models for insights and content creation. Develop and maintain responsive, mobile-friendly front-end solutions to ensure a seamless user experience across devices. Ensure designs are optimized for performance, scalability, and ease of use. Collaborate with backend engineers to ensure smooth integration of UI components with backend systems and data sources. Develop intuitive visualizations and dashboards to present complex outputs in a user-friendly manner. Champion UI/UX best practices and ensure consistency in design language across various tools and applications. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other: Proficiency in front-end development technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, React, or similar frameworks). Strong skills in UI/UX design tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD) and the ability to create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs. Experience with data visualization tools and libraries (e.g., D3.js, Chart.js) to build insightful, interactive graphics. Experience designing user interfaces for AI-powered applications, particularly those involving natural language processing or image generation is a plus. Familiarity with user research methodologies and usability testing to continuously improve designs. A keen eye for detail and a passion for crafting visually stunning, user-centric interfaces. Experience working in sports analytics or a strong understanding of basketball data and its applications is a plus. Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, data scientists, and developers. Ability to design intuitive, functional user experiences that meet both business goals and user needs. Expertise in designing for data-rich environments and translating complex data into clear, actionable visualizations. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously. Self-motivated, with a drive to stay updated on the latest UI/UX trends and technologies. An ability to work independently; we are a small team and a lot of the work will be self-governed. Additional information: Experience : 3 years of experience as a UI/UX Engineer, with a focus on building data-intensive applications. Education : Bachelor's degree in UI/UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, or a related field. Supervisory Responsibility, if any : This position does not have supervisory responsibility. Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. Office hours are typically 8:30 AM-5:00PM Monday-Friday. In addition to working office hours staff are required to work all Timberwolves and Lynx games, in addition to external events including but not limited to: charity and networking events. Work is generally sedentary in nature. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. This job also operates in a sports arena, which includes bleachers/steps. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others both in person and over the telephone. The employee frequently is required to remain in a stationary position, as well as operate computers and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, printer and telephone. Staff will frequently ascend and descend bleachers/steps and traverse around the arena both on event days and non-event days. Staff may occasionally move objects weighing up to 15 pounds. Travel Position isn't expected to travel to external events.
