VRS - Power BI/SQL Developers - TWO ROLES

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) Data Office team isseeking up to two (2) senior level c/SQL Developers with strong problemsolving, organizational, and communication skills. This role will be expected to collaboratewith the Data Office, Business, IT and other stakeholders and play an activerole in the Data Quality Enhancement initiative. The individual is expected tobe a self-starter who is comfortable prioritizing and effectively managingtheir daily workload.EssentialDuties and Responsibilities:
Assist withoverall Power BI/SQL Support (development, performance, process, documentation)related to the Data Quality Enhancement initiative and other development efforts as needed. Activitiesinclude:•Maintain the confidentiality of all business data and adhere to VRS datasecurity policies.•Meet all deliverables withing the agreed upon timeframe.•Provide regular status updates and attend various meetings as required.•Develop, design, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards based onbusiness requirements.•Create interactive visualizations, reports, dashboards that assist witheffective monitoring of Critical Data Elements.•Advise on best practices in data visualization and report optimization.•Work closely with business stakeholders to understand their data needsand translate into actionable reports.•Develop, optimize and maintain SQL queries and stored procedures fordata retrieval and manipulation.•Develop DAX queries to enhance the performance and functionality ofreports.•Develop reports to support KPIs and other performance indicators.•Provide training and support to end-users on Power BI and SQL tools.•Review existing SQL Queries, Execution Plans, Partitions, and Index(s)to determine performance enhancements for long running queries.•Provide alternative options to existing data manipulation techniques.Examples would be converting Excel manipulation activities into solutions thatreduce process/cycle time of data preparation.•Specialprojects at the direction of the Chief Operating Officer or Data Officer.
Required Skills and Experience:•Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in developing reports, dashboards, and datavisualizations using Power BI.•Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in SQL Server SQL development,including writing complex queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning.•Experience in writing complex DAX queries.•Experience with MS SQL Server data modelling and schema design.•Experience working in an Agile development environment.•Ability to work independently and as part of a team that includesbusiness and technical stakeholders.•Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.•Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Desired Skills:•Experience in Pensions Benefit Management programs.•Experience with other BI tools (e.g., Tableau, QlikView).•Knowledge of programming languages such as Python or R.•Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS).•Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate or equivalent.•Other relevant certifications in SQL, Data Analysis and databasemanagement.
Educationand/or ExperienceBachelor's degree from a four-year collegeor university preferred and 5+ years' experience with technology or data organizationsrequired.
