Our District:

The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.
Our Community:

Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our "backyard" is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

Under direction, provide basic health services to students; to assist in the planning and implementation of school health programs in cooperation with medical authority and school administrative personnel; to evaluate the health status of students and the health service program; to provide instruction in health practices, ?rst aid, child care, and other related subjects; to serve as a resource pertaining to student health management strategies, and welfare and attendance problems and concerns; and to do other related functions as required.
Essential Functions:

Develop individualized health care plans and/or emergency care plans for students with acute or chronic health conditions and train unlicensed sta? in the care of those students as appropriate.

Assess the health of students within the scope of school nurse practice and initiate referrals for further diagnosis and treatment of identi?ed health needs and provide follow-up.

Recommend oral medication policy to the school district and provide training and supervision for oral medication administration.

Delegate to unlicensed school personnel tasks that can by law be delegated and provide training and supervision of non-nurse school sta? in providing those services.

Provide nursing consultation re: development and/or revision of school health policies and procedures, records and forms, health room procedures, communicable disease control, and student immunization compliance.

Perform a variety functions and activities pertaining to communicable disease prevention and control.

Collect, organize, and analyze student health information, and provide sta? and school administrative personnel with student health alert detail on a "need to know" basis.

Develop, implement and follow-up of student health care plans, especially those mandated by state law. Perform a variety of functions and activities pertaining to communicable disease prevention and control.

Provide counsel and guidance to pupils and the school sta? pertaining to individual student health needs as determined by health appraisals and standards of growth and development.

Conduct or assist in the conduct of vision and hearing screening in compliance with legal mandates, policies and regulations.

Assist clerical sta?ng implementing mandated pupil immunization program, including participation in parent information and referral programs.

Provide information and data to students concerning health education, nutrition, diet, and social and communicable disease.

Serve as a resource to site and District personnel, and members of the school community.

Serve as a healthy role model to students, members of the school community and District personnel.

Meet, confer, and counsel with parents, school personnel, and members of various youth serving agencies in developing alternative solutions to student health issues, problems and concerns.

Assist in the development and monitoring of the health service portion of individual education plans for students with exceptional needs.

Maintain a liaison with social service and health service agencies in pursuing health referral follow-ups. Pursue evaluation and research activities to determine the health service program e?ectiveness.

Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of strategies to provide for health service emergencies.

Assist in identifying health service program needs, and participates in developing school health instructional programs.

Establish, maintain, and monitor the maintenance of a variety of ?les and records pertaining to student services, and related matters.

Assist in dealing with health related student behavior management problems, and in resolving welfare and attendance problems and concerns.

Plan, develop, and present, as requested, a variety of management related reports pertaining to the health service functions and activities.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

Experiences frequent interruptions.

Required to deal with a wide range of student behaviors and academic abilities, which may include distraught or di?cult students and parents.

May be required to shift task priority.

Frequently required to deal with situations that could put employee in position of liability.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Record keeping requires substantial visual concentration. Exposed to visual display terminals.

Potentially exposed to ordinary infectious diseases carried by students. Occasionally required to attend to students' personal hygiene.

Required to take precautions to avoid exposure to student bodily ?uids, disinfectants and medications. May be required to move ill or injured students.

This is a position that performs light work that involves sitting, but does require walking and standing for extended periods.

Requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with materials and objects, and providing oral information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

Principles, methods, techniques, strategies, and trends in educational health services;Applicable health appraisal methods, techniques, and procedures;Social service and health service agencies in the local area;Social, emotional, and behavioral characteristics of students clients;Health services program evaluation and research techniques, strategies, and procedures;Appropriate curriculum and instructional programs pertaining to student health education;Washington State health rules, regulations and nurse practice act;Medical and educational disabilities, or be willing to learn.

EDUCATION, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, FORMAL TRAINING:

Two years of successful public school nursing experience desirable. Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in the State of Washington. Valid CPR and First Aid certi?cation required.

Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License.
