Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:
Position Summary:
Responsible for troubleshooting and solving issues for the laboratory. Serves as an internal and external resource for specimen and testing information.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Effectively utilizes resources to maximize productivity, determine priority and ensure quality service
- Efficiently uses the Laboratory Information System (LIS) for ordering, crediting, noting out, canceling tests, and determining specimen acceptability
- Identifies proper tubes, containers, transport media, and storage temperature for each test type
- Provides specimen requirements, reference ranges and information on specimen stability
- Works amongst other internal departments to best resolve problems
- Understands test requesting, labeling, specimen storage and retrieval, and tracking of all specimens received for testing
- Understands current work lists and how to track all ordered tests analyzed
- Utilizes customer service skills to effectively and efficiently handle inquiries
- Handles administrative duties that may include maintaining records
- Adheres to departmental policies and procedures
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Required: High school diploma or the equivalent
- Preferred: Two years of experience in a medical laboratory
Licensure and Certifications:
- Required: State licensure if applicable

- Demonstrates the ability to maintain cultural competence
- Proficient with related software
Physical Requirements
- Requires manipulation of tools, objects, and equipment using the following physical motions: pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching above shoulder height, grasping with one hand or both, pinching with thumb and forefinger, twisting with hand and wrist, climbing under, lifting up, lifting down and reaching under
- Requires light to medium lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 30 pounds
- Routinely requires visual discrimination of color, size, shape, and motility
Work Conditions:
Environmentally controlled medical environment with exposure to noise. Fast-paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations. May come into contact with contagious pathogens and hazardous chemicals. May be required to operate fire and safety equipment or follow other safety procedures.
This role will have routine access to Protected Health Information (PHI). Employees will be trained on reasonable safeguards and are expected to maintain strict confidentiality, as well as abide by all applicable privacy and security standards. Employees are expected only to access PHI when it is required to fulfill job duties.
