Location: Port Charlotte, FL

Days: Monday - Friday

Hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (Saturdays when coverage is needed)

Full-time: Benefit Eligible

 In this role, you will:

  • Perform tasks normally associated with supervision such as hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, directing and appraising the work of assigned staff
  • Will be a working supervisor role in which the incumbent will also perform the work of those supervised
  • This position has direct reports
  • Hold regularly scheduled one on ones with direct reports on at least a monthly basis
  • Is an advocate for direct reports regarding ensuring ideas are heard/shared and in their career progression planning and efforts
  • Adhere to laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, and maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
  • Maintain proficiency and training requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, federal and CLIA regulations.
  • Participate in inventory management, special projects and perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Assist in staff development and training.
  • Assists the Lab Manager in the maintenance/upkeep of CLIA documentation and records (including supervising/verifying completion of daily records and tracking documents), and preparation for CAP and CLIA inspections.
  • Communicate with pathologists regarding laboratory issues, client’s needs, and respond quickly and efficiently to concerns/feedback regarding histology within the lab.
  • Track and monitor laboratory quality indicators.
  • Answer technical questions from pathologists and clients regarding lab processes and histology workflows.

All you need is:

  • Possesses an Associate degree in Histology, Biology, Chemistry or other related field, a Bachelor degree is preferred; degree must satisfy the CLIA standards for Grossing Surgical Specimens (12 course hours of Biology and Chemistry combined)
  • 5 or more years experience in the histology field
  • Hold and maintain the HT or HTL (ASCP) certification.
  • May accept additional education and/or experience in lieu of certification when certification is not a jurisdictional requirement for the job
