In this role, you will:
- Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of surgical specimens for Histological processing, according to policies and procedures.
- Assure appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling.
- Perform gross description and dissection of specimens received.
- Maintain the integrity of the specimen and patient identification.
- Describe gross anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, and some moderate complexity specimens, ensuring that all lesions, markings and sutures are mentioned.
- Reviews clinical information provided to determine what pathologic examination is pertinent.
- Examines the gross specimen with knowledge of pathologic conditions that may be present and the questions that must be answered.
- Dictate the findings in a clear, complete, sufficient manner.
- Selects pertinent tissue samples for slide preparation, providing diagram of specimen and dissection of specimen.
- Photographs specimens prior to and/or after dissection, when requested and/or indicated for case records.
- Escalates non-routine, complicated surgical specimens to Pathologist Assistants.
- Able to guide and train newly hired gross technicians on basic policies and procedures. •Ability to troubleshoot equipment and escalate issues to upper management
All you need is:
- Must qualify as a High Complexity Testing personnel under CLIA regulations.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology obtained from an accredited institution.
