At Michael Baker International, we believe that the beauty of a project resides both in performance and aesthetics – “success” to us is measured by functionality, value, and exceeding clients’ expectations to “Make a Difference.” Our SRS Practice is focused on providing full-service planning design, architecture, engineering (MEP, Structural and Fire Protection), cybersecurity, commissioning and program management services for Government, Institutional and Private Sector clients.DESCRIPTIONWe are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to be the Director of Mechanical Engineering based in our San Diego Office. This position will oversee the mechanical engineering team responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining mechanical systems in building projects. This role involves leading a team of engineers, managing projects from inception to completion, and ensuring all mechanical systems are efficient, sustainable, and meet client requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the MEP services industry, with a proven track record of driving revenue growth and building a successful mechanical engineering team. This role will also be responsible for identifying and pursuing new MEP business opportunities in San Diego and Southern California, developing, and maintaining client relationships, and ensuring the high-quality delivery of mechanical designs to clients. This is a seller-doer role with a 50% project utilization target.Leadership and Management:Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers.Assign tasks, set goals, and monitor team performance.Foster a highly collaborative and innovative work environment.Project Management:Oversee all phases of mechanical engineering projects, from design to implementation.Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets.Coordinate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure project success.Quality Assurance:Identify and resolve any issues or deficiencies.Implement best practices for quality control and continuous improvement.Client Interaction:Communicate with clients to understand their needs and provide technical expertise.Present project proposals and updates to clients.Ensure client satisfaction through effective project delivery.Sustainability and Innovation:Promote sustainable engineering practices.Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.Business Development:Focus on new business development and cultivating client relationships in a range of private sector markets (e.g., defense contractors, industrial, aviation, healthcare, life sciences, commercial real estate, higher education, federal and public sector work).Grow revenue from existing client base through ensuring high quality work product and regular client interactions.Identify and win new work from new clients.PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTSBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is preferred.At least 15 years of progressive experience in business development and sales, with a focus on MEP services industry.P.E. Professional Engineer.Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with customers and partners.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Successful history of revenue and profit attainment targets.Strong track record of customer satisfaction.COMPENSATIONThe salary range for this position is $165-$225k, dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
