Job Description :The Sterile Processing Technician ensures the effective decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, inventory, and tracking of all reusable surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment. This role adheres to established hospital and departmental protocols to maintain a safe and sterile environment for patient care. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, proficient in equipment handling, and committed to achieving the highest standards in healthcare support.
Key ResponsibilitiesProcessing & Assembly: Process and assemble medical supplies, equipment, and instrumentation according to productivity benchmarks, achieving a minimum 80% cumulative average.Equipment Operation: Safely operate automated washers, ultrasonic washers, cart washers, sterilizers, and endoscope reprocessors, following manufacturers' guidelines and hospital protocols.Decontamination & Cleaning: Transport soiled instruments per protocol, sorting them appropriately for safe handling and effective reprocessing.Inspection & Packaging: Inspect instruments and equipment meticulously for cleanliness and functionality prior to packaging, maintaining 100% accuracy in tray assembly.Documentation: Complete and initial all necessary documentation to ensure accurate tracking.Instrument Tracking: Use the SPM Instrument Tracking System for all work assignments.High-Level Disinfection (HLD) & Sterilization: Ensure items requiring HLD/S are treated with the correct disinfectant or sterilization method, following validated protocols and documenting as required.Case Cart Preparation: Assemble patient-specific case carts with correct and complete instrumentation, ensuring timely delivery.Communication & Team Collaboration: Maintain open communication, report workflow or equipment issues, engage in team meetings, and provide input for process improvements.Compliance & Safety: Adhere to safety protocols, follow dress codes, and respond to emergency plans promptly.Required Skills
Basic computer literacyStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to interact effectively with hospital staff at all levelsSelf-motivation with the ability to complete varied tasks independentlyEducation & Experience
Education: High School Diploma or GED requiredExperience: Minimum two years in a central supply or OR processing area preferred; experience with scope reprocessing required for scope roles.Licenses & Certifications
Required:
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from either:
Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution orHealthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA)
Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) upon hire
